Base tastes is what came back first for me.

I went from nothing and just blank mush to being able to just taste salt/bitter/sweet.. then the nuance came back slowly.

I still think my sense of smell is diminished (1year plus) as I can't smell our kids dirty diaper until I open it up. Used to be able To smell it across the room.

Not that I'm complaining.

Woke up today with a bit of a relapse. Overnight a ton of drainage accumulation in my chest caused me to have an overly-productive cough. Left eye pain is back, as well as a mild fever and headache.

Wife is now feeling pretty puny too and I'm going to pick up her ivermectin dose this morning.

9 year old has a sore throat, 12 year old is fine except for a "burning sensation" in his nose when he inhales, and 14 year old has occasional eye pain and dizziness.

*****China.

What is the deal with the ivermectin? Everything I read online says not to take it, it's not safe, etc. But seems like a lot of people here recommend it. Have people had good results with it? Any dangers?

Your taste loss has me confused as I would have sworn you have some sort of cold w/ all the drainage, productive cough, etc. I thought COVID was a bit more fever / chills / chest pain vs drainage but I may be way off on that.

My recent symptoms have been all heavy feeling in the nose / eyes from all the congestion. Lots of draining / productive coughs. No fever. No headache. Each of the last 2 nights have been incrementally better. My sore throat was the first 2 days and was far and way the most painful part of my symptoms so glad that part is over. Pretty sure what I have is a cold vs covid but still may do an antibody test later...

Hope you and your family bounce back soon!

This part isn't true and is fake news.

True efficacy is up in the air. Works for some but not others.

Ive had Covid long haul symptoms for 13 months. Ive tried all of the medicines and doctor remedies: Steroid pak, azithromycin, doxycycline, zinc, vitamin c and d etc. The ONLY thing that helped get rid of my symptons was Ivermectin. It was like an on/off switch. Unfortunately the symptoms came back after I stopped taking it.

What did you put in for dosage / quantity / reason?

This is what I put...

Dosage: "Whatever is appropriate based on my weight"
Quantity: "Enough to ride this thing out"

They're going to do the math of .2mg/kg bodyweight on their own, but you have to put something or it won't accept the form.

The smell thing is bizarre - I can still taste some sweet things and anything salty. I had an orange with my morning coffee today and the coffee was like bitter water but the orange was tasty. For lunch I had chicken soup and the broth just tasted like salt water. I drank an Ensure shake to get some protein into me and that tasted pretty good, but otherwise it's just been vegetables and simple proteins. Might as well eat healthy if I can't enjoy eating poorly.

Haven't had a drink since Wednesday too, so maybe this isn't the worst thing for me

Rage, you lost your sense of smell not taste.

Taste, you will still be able to taste salt, sweet, bitter, sour, and umami. (go into your pantry, and try a little salt, sugar...soy sauce will feel almost totally normal).

Its your smell that gives things the rest of the flavor. I would suggest every morning, go through your spice cabinet and smell some things...just pick a few at random. Then, in the afternoon, try again.

You can at least track whether you think you are getting better or worse.

That makes sense - and would explain why I can't smell it when my 14 year old rips one but I can still faintly taste celery.

There was a study that said smelling specific scents would help re-train your olfactory nerve. Clove, Lemon, Rose and Eucalyptus. So I ordered those and tried it. I can smell them all now; at first I couldn't smell the rose at all, and habituation with all the others was almost immediate.

Another thing I've noticed is that my mouth is far less sensitive to heat. Coffee, soup, etc normally I need them to sit for a few minutes before I can drink or eat them, but over the last few days I've realized that I can consume them right away. So weird.

interesting. sounds like a numbing type issue. be careful not to permanently burn your tastebuds in the interim.

Word of caution.

When I was getting my taste back, even somewhat Spivey foods were unbearable to eat.

I am a big spicy fan, eat peppers or some sort of hot sauce with almost everything. It was really tough to eat just plain tacos from chuys and not be able to finish as just the regular seasoning was too spicy.

It was really weird, but as time went on, my heat tolerance came back... as did my heartburn.

I'm on day three of symptoms and my wife on day two.

Her symptoms seem to have increased versus mine. Initially I felt pretty rough yesterday, today not too bad. Her coughing has increased, where mine has decreased and she is having chills.

Edit just lost taste and smell.

Day 9 - I'm definitely on the back end of this thing. Breathing has gotten easier, and the only major residual symptom is lack of smell (which I've been following with different scents for the past five days, and seems to slightly be improving).

One thing that has stuck out to me in the past two or three mornings: I have always enjoyed two or three cups of black coffee for breakfast, it's what I exclusively consume every morning. But yesterday and today especially, I can barely make it through my first cup without getting extremely gassy and nauseated.

The thought that I won't be able to a): enjoy my coffee in the morning and b): get my needed dose of caffeine is very disconcerting. Has anyone else experienced the same phenomenon?

I'm two days behind you with the exact same symptoms. My fatigue and being winded stopped around Wed. Evening though.

Felt good enough to work in the yard today. Transplanted a few peach trees and replanted some rosemary.

Now I feel like an old mandamnit China, this virus is a sunnuva*****.

That's your opinion, Von Flag Smasher. I choose to not consider myself "old" for at least another 30 yearsmaybe 40.

Confirmed COVID?

I am getting over a 2 / 3 day sore throat, cough, etc. No fever.

Feels more like a cold or something.

Tempted to do an antibody test in a week or two....

Coming back from Vegas on tues my wife started having sinus pain. Developed into cold symptoms but never any fever. Got at home test from CVS today and she was positive, me negative. I had it last year, she didn't.

Maybe we can hang out during football season. I'm not as fat as I used to be, so I don't take up nearly as much couch space.
