i know there will be those that disagree with me, but the argument of "there have been zero cases traced back to XYZ, so there's no reason to mask/distance/etc." doesn't seem to pass a logical test.
there have been zero cases traced back to (fill in the blank here: gyms, restaurants, planes) because, based on what i understand, there have not been effective contract tracing measures put it into place by and large across the US.
i know i might be wrong, but i've never bought that argument. i'd welcome any feedback that suggest otherwise.
Admittedly, to me it's worth the risk to not have to mask. Even to others. I know, not at all a very politically correct thing to say. Just honest. So I am a very biased person in this regard and no, I get it isn't worth bragging about. But I take my training very seriously and so do most of the people I train with and around and they feel the exact same way almost to a man and woman. Masking while lifting, especially very heavy weight relative to what one is used to training with is something that can very much effect performance. Watch a video on how to do correct low bar squat using breathing to brace and you'll see what I mean. Totally mental I understand, but in essence putting weight on your back that is more than twice your body weight is almost all a mental exercise and one of the hardest things one can do. Add a mask to that? No thanks! Combine that with the fact that most if not all the people around us at a gym that do get Covid are not really knocked out of action for very long and seemingly no one else seems to get it after they have it (ie you notice when other members are out and especially if John gets Covid you find out from a lifting buddy who never gets it and most who associate with John never contract it). Same with school where I work. When one kid would kid it in the fall, up to in some cases 10 kids would get quarantined and not a single quarantined kid actually got covid. The disruption was so great that they changed the "close contact" rules to pretty much if you thought about a mask you were ok lol. I mean, these were deals where students and teachers who sat practically next to a kid for an hour or more never contracted anything. And kids wear masks like some pro athletes wear condoms. Loose or not at all essentially. I noticed the same thing at gyms. Bear in mind that most very fit people, and I stress most, drive over Covid like a Mack truck and have 0 lasting effects. The only long haulers I anecdotally noticed, many posting here, were more endurance athletes who ran marathons and/or did triathlons. Most physique athletes, power and Olympic lifters and strongman athletes actually seemed to have 0 post covid effects and recovered from it as if it were a minor cold. Again, most endurance athletes I know had the same situation...
All that to say,
