I know there were a few other people posting here with pregnant wives. If any of you have had the baby, what was your hospital experience like? We are due in August and my wife is trying to get some more information on how the L&D units are operating.

Not me but my sister in law had a baby. Only one person allowed with her the entire time. That person could not leave the hospital for any reason and be readmitted. She was discharged in 24 hours. This is in DFW

Family member had a baby. Husband was allowed in with her, but they both had to be tested and take a "CDC" shower at the hospital prior to going in. Husband couldn't leave, or he wouldn't be readmitted. They left after 24 hours. Houston area.

Houston Methodist West delivery on April 30th. We were temperature screened when we arrived and given a band for that day. Masks were mandatory in the hospital and in the delivery room. There was hand sanitizer available everywhere, outside each elevator and each room.

The nurses were much more cautious about cleaning hands entering and leaving the room. I never left my wife's room except to get water and hit up the vending machine as I didn't want to deal with all preventative measures again.

Once we were in our room post delivery, I felt it was pretty much the same as our first child for us. There was just a lot less hall traffic. We were there 3 days, 2 nights.

Birth was 5/10 at Texas Children's Women's Center in the TMC.

You go through some screening (just questions, no temp check and they give you a mask) before you can get on the elevators and a security guard has to scan you up. Once up, only the wife was tested and they treated her like she had covid till the results came back. I was allowed to go and come and just had to answer the questions again once per day. They give you a sticker.

Out of the 10 or so nurses, doctors and staff that came in her room, only 1 asked us to put on our masks. We do not object to the masks but see no reason to wear them when it is just us in the room and they knock as they are coming into the room.

The mother only gets one visitor for the duration of her stay. The hallways were super quiet and it felt kind of empty but I think half the rooms on our floor had people in them. They are low-key pushing you out 24 hours after birth for natural. Which was fine for us.

This was our 3rd kid and it took a lot of asking to get a pacifier this time around. Seems they are bad for babies now.

One hospital in San Antonio allowed only the father in with the wife, but he was free to come and go until the wife was released.

My daughter delivered at Baylor Scott&White 3 weeks ago. She was only allowed 1 visitor, which was dad. If he left the hospital for any reason, he would not be able to return until the next day (he stayed for both nights). He could come to an entrance to receive food deliveries, gifts, or needed supplies from a family member. He had to wear a mask during delivery and whenever staff was in the room. Mom had to wear a mask only while the anesthesiologist was placing the epidural. They brought their own pacifier, but baby didn't and still won't take one

Thank you everyone for the info. My wife is worried about testing positive and being separated from the baby, so hopefully everything goes smooth.

Next door neighbor had a baby a early April. Was a high risk delivery since it was a VBAC (vaginal birth after C-Section). Went in at 2AM. Husband was only one allowed to be there. She was released by 8PM that evening.

Her husband is from portugal and his mom hopped on a plane the night trump announced the euro travel ban to get in before it took effect and she watched the 2 other kids. She's still here.
