Grocery trips today to neighborhood Kroger - I go once per week - was the most productive trip in the last 3 weeks.

They had:

TP - a couple of brands, one cheap, one nice, limit 1
paper towels - only 2 packs and limited to 1 pack per customer
cleaners - both lysol and clorox sprays but not wipes
hand soap dispensers - some weird wacky brand but no limit
baby wipes - we have a friend that needed those
pasta - mostly spaghetti, elbow noodles, lasagna and egg noodles
rice - a few different quick types
bread - lots all varieties
milk, butter, eggs - enough anyway large grade AA
OJ - the good brands not the knockoff store brand
water - lots
cereals - pretty much all kinds
paper plates and bowls and solo cups
marshamallows - oddly those had been out for weeks except the mini size
sugar, flour, bread crumbs, etc.
all fresh fruits and veggies

90% of the people were now masked or gloved or both. and all cashiers were gloved there were new plastic shield barriers for the cashiers too and everyone was giving a lot of distance between carts, etc.

when i started doing it masked and gloved more than three weeks ago I was one of the only ones. nice to see.

correct. Apparently he tried to put out an updated video to update that part but it hasn't been nearly as popular

Not sure where I saw this video posted so forgive me if it was here.

A doctor put out a PSA on how to disinfect your groceries when you get home:

just an FYI, some of that is bad advice. You shouldn't wash food with soap and water, it could make you sick.
I've never heard this. Why would it make you sick?

I agree - I use dawn dish soap to wash some vegetables (I did this even before COVID)

if the soap isn't completely washed off and you eat the food it can make you sick. Like vomiting and diarrhea sick. Aside from that its a waste of soap. Plain old water is just as effective for rinsing fruits and veggies.

Indeed. Ask an old Boy Scout about the "tetrox trots". A thorough rinsing of fruits and vegetables is fine.

I visited Kroger today in Magnolia.
Lots of people, and about 30% wore masks.
No TP or paper towels, but everything else seemed fully stocked.

At one point I had about 6 weeks worth of tp which is the amount we normally buy because we don''t get it every week. My wife has us avoiding going in grocery stores so now we are down to less than 3 weeks worth. I did go in a target once during that time and it didn't have any paper products in the whole section.

I keep hoping things return to normal but now I am starting to regret times I walked by tp and left it there because I didn't need it and didn't want to hoard. Now, I am a few weeks away from going to a bunch of stores on a tp hunt.

I feel the same way. I passed some up a while back b/c it was a large package and more than i needed at the time. Now we are about 1.5 weeks worth remaining. I am suppose to have some delievered from Amazon on Monday, April 20. If that falls through I may be grocery store / gas station hopping all over town until i get some.

As a positive, this AM i saw some Charmin on Amazon and saw some other name brands periodically available online too. I think we are about 3 or 4 weeks from hopefully "normalizing" the TP supply...

I went to Central Market in DFW on Saturday and it was completely stocked up. This isn't necessarily proof of anything but I think things are starting to get back to normal in terms of inventory.

What was extremely abnormal was going there and standing in a 15 minute (socially distanced) line to get inside. I would say 50% of the people had masks on also which was strange to get used to. Once inside though it was pretty nice, everyone was mindful of social distancing, the aisles were clear and easy to navigate. In some respects it was a more pleasant shopping experience than going there on a Saturday pre-pandemic as I never felt crowded.

My last 2 grocery trips in the last week they had TP on the shelves - and with the 1 per person limit it wasn't just disappearing. And not everyone was getting some. Had a few see one in my cart and ask which aisle.... but plenty did not have any and did not seem worried about it.

I actually bought one pack even though I didn't need any - felt like someone I knew would. My wife had a friends husband pass away (not Corona) and I said take the TP over when she took them a meal for the family. They were as thankful for the TP as for the food. Said they were running low and did not know where to go plus they were just too busy and had lots of family in the house on quarantine with them while he was on hospice care toward the end.

Still no paper towels but I actually got some from Amazon and they delivered a week or so ago. Actually got both Lysol and Clorox spray from Amazon too.

so i was looking about 3 and 2 weeks ago into getting masks and no store had them obviously, everyone said don't buy them anyway - save them for health care people and people with the virus, and on amazon it said masks couldn't be delivered until June.... but my wife just went to CVS and HEB (we're still looking for household cleaner - have been looking for that for a month), and she said EVERYONE has a mask. Not a make-shift DIY made from a tshirt and rubber bands mask, but real ones.. Where are all of you getting these elusive contraptions? It's getting to where we feel shamed for not having them around here.

I just had a couple in my hardware drawer. Bought a pack of three 2-3 years ago to do some mold cleanup and used only one. I imagine that's how most people came by theirs. Especially in Houston, I expect a lot of folks might have some masks left over from demo work after Harvey. They are most likely not finding these masks in stores.

I have some cloth masks I ordered at the beginning of April. Best bet is to find someone local to you making them. Check nextdoor or facebook

Had a few dozen N95 masks on hand from previous prepper phase.
