I see HBP is now being listed as an at risk group for suffering COVID-19 complications by WHO, but wasn't initially. I'm in my late 20s and one of the lucky people who has high blood pressure. Already on medication for it.

Anyway, the girlfriend is now completely freaked out about this and wants me to not leave the house for anything. We've been occasionally going to Walgreens, HEB etc but that's about it.

Do I need to be really worried due to my HBP?
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Welcome to the hypertension club. Let not your heart be troubled (no pun intended).

Wash your hands, stay away from people. We can't change our genetics, can only roll with the punches.

Search doc rev's thread to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that HBP that is controlled with meds isn't high risk.

High BP has been mentioned from the beginning. If you're on medication, then your blood pressure is controlled. To make sure your BP stays controlled, check it daily.

I am 44 and on a blood pressure medicine. I am a presumptive case ( slight fever of 99 ish for 11 days doctor wouldnt test me since minor symptoms) i am bascially recovering, fever gone and have a cough though. My question is not that the HBP is a factor but my medication. I bascially cut back on it a bit when i got all this. This may seem weird but i felt i burned more after taking the medicine compared if i didnt.

You're presumptive for only a mild fever for a period? Was that a presumptive from a medical professional or a self-diagnosis? Genuinely curious

I take Lisinopril for high blood pressure. It is an ACE inhibitor. Do you recommend me talking with my doctor about trying a different medicine such as a beta blocker?
Currently they don't recommend changing medications but we are looking into it. You should talk to your doctor for sure as recommendations may change as more studies become available.

HBP club! Ramipril here and 39. My doc just refilled my prescription for another 3 months. Based on what I've read, HBP puts you at higher risk, but controlled HBP should eliminate the higher risk. There does not seem to be enough data yet on whether or not ACE inhibitors are bad OR good. The data to date seems conflicted. My pril could be a miracle drug or a widow maker. Time will tell.

44. Active, athletic and only slightly overweight. BP is controlled with medicine. I too was worried whether it was HBP or also included people who were controlled. Of course it didn't make sense that controlled HBP would be a risk, but I could never find an answer.

Plus I have seasonal allergic asthma. Ugh.

I had traveled to California in the time before I got sick. I have had fever for 11 days ( it never hit 100 but my normal is around 96.9 NOT 98.6) I had had a slight cough/stuffed up ( still do without fever) Yes my doctor said you probably have it but because you are not high risk and no severe symptoms you won't get tested.

I only ask because I've had 99.5 for 6 days (normal 97.5) and the same slight congestion and cough. I won't assume it's covid until I can get a test confirmation at some point in the future, so all safety measures still apply. If symptoms can be this mild it's really easy to see how it could be spread without anyone knowing they have it.

Felt flu-like and ran fever for 48 hours (100-101) from 2/22-2/24. Once the fever subsided, I had crazy pain behind my eyes for 2-3 days and had a dry cough for at least a week. Couldn't talk without coughing during this time. No other symptoms. Thought it was weird at the time. Perhaps it was mild case of C19.

T&P's to the genetically inclined hbp gang. I have couple of genetic issues of my own...one being high cholesterol. Did 20 years of statins and another type but my body told me to stop using that ***** Diet changes are having a positive effect.

My BP was high until I got back into vigorous workouts and dropped the alcohol. That might help some of you too.

Fwiw, one of my top goals for the shut in period is extra focus on eating well and staying fit. So far its been easy and rewarding. Might help me feel better (survive?) if\when I get the Wuhan.

This is why we came home from Zambia. I don't have high blood pressure but I do have an ascending aortic aneurysm that we're keeping an eye on. I checked with one of my docs and he said any type of bad infection could cause my bp to go up which can in turn blow up the balloon. That and my age (64) made us think we needed to come back to the states.

The eye discomfort lines up with some other posters who've had it here.

I look forward to the antibody test when it comes out. It'd be nice to know I already had it and my HBD / ACE inhibitor didn't exacerbate the issue.

BTW, in addition to buying some Zinc and Vitamin C this weekend, I loaded up on Coricidin HBP - Cold & Flu and Coricidin HBP - Cough & Cold. Both have Acetaminophen as the fever reducer and are formulated for people with HBP. There was plenty at the G store while they were completely sold out of all of the Tylenol.

It's a 'pril (ACE inhibitor). Read Gary79Ag's link above from Dr. Reveille's sticky'd thread. No consensus.

Mine is 100% inherited. I had HBP before I really started drinking. Exercise helps, but not enough. My weight makes no difference.

Just be careful if you're taking multiple meds with acetaminophen (Tylenol generic name) in them. People sometimes don't realize that their cold medicine and pain medicine both have it, and can end up with liver damage.

Good info. I'm an Ibuprofen (Advil) guy for almost everything. I rarely take meds for colds, etc. and I never take Acetaminophen (Tylenol). That said, given the fear regarding the mixing of Ibuprofen and C19, I've decided to load up on Acetaminophen instead.

I trained for 70.3s for a year and a half. I was in excellent shape, nevertheless, always HBP. The I quit drinking and it went down a bunch. Still was high though.

Nice review of the interaction / safety profile of the RAAS inhibitors (ACE-Is and ARBs) in COVID-19.
On the basis of the available evidence, we think that, despite the theoretical concerns and uncertainty regarding the effect of RAAS inhibitors on ACE2 and the way in which these drugs might affect the propensity for or severity of Covid-19, RAAS inhibitors should be continued in patients in otherwise stable condition who are at risk for, are being evaluated for, or have Covid-19 (see text box), a position now supported by multiple specialty societies (Table S2). Although additional data may further inform the treatment of high-risk patients with Covid-19, clinicians need to be cognizant of the unintended consequences of prematurely discontinuing proven therapies in response to hypothetical concerns that may be based on incomplete experimental evidence.69

I was initially worried about this, because I take Lisinopril. My doc, and another I was on vacation with that takes the same thing, were not worried about this, and the consensus was to continue.
