Beloved high school band director dies from COVID-19

Quote:

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas Longtime Southeast Texas band director Mike Westbrook has died after contracting COVID-19.
Hardin-Jefferson High School remembered Westbrook, who has led the Big Blue Machine for 13 years, in a lengthy tweet Thursday afternoon.
"(Mike) was known for his jolly demeanor and was always ready to tell a good joke," HJISD said in a tweet. "He had worked tirelessly to revive our music program at HJ and had accomplished much success on the field and stage."

He apparently went downhill very quickly after becoming symptomatic on Sunday.. The concern is that he may have been contagious before school was cancelled. There's quite the scramble to track contacts.

Early 50's or late 40's. Im not aware of ant pre-existing conditions but he was fairly overweight.

ETA: Apparently Mr. Westbrook had several medical issue including diabetes and some cardiovascular issues.

Incredibly sad, wonderful man.

Longtime family friends, my grandmother has been in contact with his mother in law and the poor lady cannot even go comfort her grandchildren.

We all get the reasons why, but its heart wrenching to say the least.
