Essentially, dell ut or an ut entity did a study that said if austin doesn't increase enforcement of social distancing and/or shelter in place, we will run out of icu beds ina matter of weeks.

Apparently, using cell phone tracking data, they said we have achieved about 50% less social interactions since they started and they want to get to 90% less.

They are really scaremongering with some of their numbers.

I missed the press conference. Any update on the residential construction? I have a house under construction in Austin right now.

David- youre outta luck for now. Residential construction in travis county is shutting down at midnight tomorrow until April 13th.

Now, from what ive heard, there is tons of pressure on adler to adjust his order to include res construction as essential infrastructure. Apparently, the city council wants to and travis county wants to but adler himself isnt listening.

Its pretty silly to not allow it. Essentially, adler is excluding the vast majority of construction in austin but leaving the relatively minority of home construction workers out to dry.

He is going to cause major havoc for us. I alread have some crews saying they are heading to houston or san antonjo for work. Not to mention the absolute chaos that will happen on april 13th.

I understand but the city is spread out. Ben White, MOPAC, IH35, US 183 inward are now condos and lofts. Oitside of that it's spread out. You will never get to 90 percent. We have to go to grocery stores, doctors. We are not New Yorkers where the corner grocery is at every block.

They are smoking some good stuff.

I would posit that not all social interactions are equal.

If the only social interactions that are stopped are due to people that feel a little ill, or are exhibiting symptoms staying home instead of going out; that would have a greater impact than that same reduction in social interactions being done randomly.

People of integrity expect to be believed, when they're not, they let time prove them right.

Where are you seeing the vast majority of construction in Austin is being excluded? In my experience this isn't true for commercial unless you're basically working on a government project. The major commercial guys are shutting down, the Associated General Contractors just put out an email saying they are still fighting the city to stay open. By tomorrow we face fines if the job sites are still open. It completely goes against what other cities are doing.

Lakeway is defying travis county. Travis county claims it's rules supersede lakeways but lakeway told them the only way tc can enforce is to send in the sheriff.

I see what you are saying, but at this point are there really people feeling ill and/or exhibiting symptoms that AREN'T stopping their social interactions? Hopefully that number is very small.

Two problems with C19 vs. regular flu are that you can be a carrier/spreader for days (or even longer) without feeling ill or showing any symptoms, and it's much more contagious. Both are reasons for everyone to isolate vs. only the ill & vulnerable.

I believe the same for Hays, Bastrop, and Williamson counties. We are looking at shifting things that way if we can.

If any job site meets one of the qualifications, it can continue.

So, apartment complexs, multi use, Multi family will qualify based on affordability requirements. It only must minimally qualify. For example, One apartment out of 250 would do so.

Also roads, utility, city, state can continue on.

Its just home construction, light commercial and large commercial such as hotels(if they somehow dont meet one of the listed standards)

Dallas county explained this as we still need to control the mosquito population and keeping yards under control helps with that.

Email just went out from development serivces. More confusion on the way. They should just shut it down at this point as they just keep digging the hole deeper.

New email indicates you can take as much time as you need to safely close down a site, even if it past the deadline.

Guess that means i need three weeks to safely shut my sites.

To our customers, stakeholders and community,

The Development Services Department has received many inquiries regarding the requirement to end all construction activities other than those listed in the Guidance for the Construction Industry document, Item #2 entitled "Construction as Critical Infrastructure."

If your construction site is required to halt operations under the COVID-19 Stay Home - Work Safe Order, you will be allowed the time you need to close the site so that it poses no threat to public safety. If you are in doubt, please err on the side of doing whatever is necessary to make the site safe, even if that goes beyond the effective date of the Order.

For your convenience you can find the Order here and the Guidance for the Construction Industry here.

Thank you for your support during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Director Lucas

How is mowing / landscaping any sort of "guaranteed" social interaction? Unless I'm having something specific done, the yard guys come, they mow / rake / sweep, and they leave. They bill me. I don't talk face to face.

Abbott just told Austin/tc to pound sand

New order enforces federal guidelines for essential infrastructure which includes residential/commercial construction. We can go back to work Thursday at 12:01am.
