Kind of worried I may be positive. Started having a small amount of chest tightness yesterday and woke up today with what I would call bad allergy symptoms. I usually take a Zyrtec daily and it clears any issues I have up. I doubled the dose today with no luck. Cough started this morning and progressively got worse throughout the day, but still isn't what I would call bad. Currently have a 99.8 temp. Kind of achy, a little pain behind the eyes. All in all not terrible right now. Getting tested tomorrow. I was around (not really ever too close) 3 people this weekend who tested positive Monday. Wife is negative.

I'm 31, and work outside so I feel like I get plenty of vitamin D. Should I still take the big 50,000 dose to start it off? I'm ignorant when it comes to all of that.

Edit to say I got my first vaccine on the 11th, and my second was scheduled for Sunday.
If your level is good than you should be fine just taking your daily amount. If any doubt take at least 10,000IU to get it up quick.

1. You said you believe that a natural immune response is probably better than that stimulated by a vaccine. If one is vaccinated, does it reduce the body's natural immune response upon exposure to the virus?

2. What are your thoughts on the safety and efficacy of monoclonal antibodies?

Thank you for what you're doing!

A little background on the monoclonal antibody question:

My wife and is 49. She tested positive on Tuesday. Symptoms started Monday. At least we think they did because she got her second Moderna vaccine last Thursday and had symptoms from the vaccine. No cough. SpO2 is great. She's had headache and fatigue and that's mostly it. Feels awful but it seems like she's over the hump. I just don't want her to take a turn for the worse because we failed to try it.

I'm also 49 but seem to be at greater risk. Survived Hodgkin's at age 20. Due to cancer treatment had triple bypass in December 2019. Recovered great. No damage to heart, just blocked arteries. I have NOT tested positive YET but it seems likely that I will.

Are we good candidates for monoclonal antibodies?

You should still develop some natural immunity if you have a breakthrough infection after vaccination.

Monoclonal antibodies are an excellent early therapy as it can reduce the viral load that your immune system has to deal with.

Our OB recommended Moderna over Pfizer for my pregnant wife.

It depends on the OB. Ours recommended Pfizer.

I had my physical last week and also had blood drawn still shows I have antibodies from when I had covid. My doctor also gave me the pneumococcal vaccine & HiB vaccine plus flu vaccine. He said having these would be a good thing since I'm not wanting to get the COVID vaccine at this time. I'm also talking the daily supplements to keep immune system strong.

So my question is for some of the doctors on here, getting those vaccines my doctor gave me, still having antibodies from having COVID, and doing the supplements daily for immune system health, will I been fine even if I was to get Covid again without getting the Covid vaccine?

When did you have covid? I had it end or April, early May. Got first vaccine shot about a week ago and had a pretty strong reaction for 3 days and then it subsided.

If you prefer the Moderna, I've had two rounds of Pfizer back in March. Was wondering if I end up being eligible for the booster, should I go for/will I be allowed to have the Moderna shot?

Thanks for all you doctors are doing!

No just stick to the Pfizer unless we get some other data showing benefits mixing the vaccine in the future.

No one can predict for sure but in all likely hood you should still have some significant immune response from having Covid previously.

Howdy doc,

Sorry if this has already been asked/answered. Depending on the final fda authorization, I will likely be eligible for a Pfizer booster soon (youngish but pre existing conditions and 2nd dose of Pfizer end of March)

I also want to get a flu shot soon. Any concern with getting both at the same time? Or, should they be staggered?

Tested positive for Covid on Sept15. No symptoms. Tested because wife was positive and she lost taste and smell. She has her taste and smell back and tested negative yesterday. My test came back positive. Since I am 15 days since initial positive, is it safe for others if I tailgate and attend game this weekend?

Yes it should be if you are 15 days out and no symptoms

Thanks for the update.

I hope that people pay attention. This caught my eye:

I have also seen a number of patients with blood clots post Covid. I would be very careful after Covid with long car rides, plane rides or long periods of inactivity. These are things that can cause deep vein thrombosis in anyone but are particularly more dangerous post Covid. I recommend taking a baby aspirin for at least a few months post Covid as long as you have no contraindication to aspirin.

Last week Steven McGee was talking about NFL players getting or not getting vaccinated on TexAgs. I thought he said something to the effect that being vaccinated does not slow down transmission of The Covid virus. Have any studies been done to provide data in this area.
Thank you, Mike

Follow up question. Are you recommending the boaster now with potential for need to reboot for omicron, or to risk waiting for potentially 100+ days for a vaccine that could handle omicron?

You can still transmit the virus even though you are vaccinated. However, the time frame for shedding the virus is likely much less.

I am recommending boosters particularly for people with risk factors and those who have no natural immunity. If omicron is proven to be virulent then a specific omicron booster would likely be necessary. However, currently omicron appears to only have mild symptoms.

Dr Rev... What are your thoughts on vaccinating my healthy 6 and 9 year olds? Neither have ever had COVID. Everyone else in their school is pretty much vaccinated. We are waiting till we see more data on the impact on kids. Thank you for your thoughts.
