Tested positive for COVID and the Flu today. Honestly have fealt A LOT worse than this with just the flu before. Doc prescribed Tamiflu, z pack and a cough medicine. I started feeling a bit run down on Mon evening. No fever to date. Had night sweats last night but no fever this morning. Was told to quarantine 10 days from today vs Mon. Curious why the z pack for two viruses? Didn't even get a chance to quiz them before I was shuttled out of the office.

just tested positive today, been following the protocol including 10 mg of melatoin at night. Any benefit to upping the dose to multiple times a day?

Not a Doc, but Melatonin is what your body produces to make you go to sleep. So I would suspect you would only use it at night, to sleep. If you feel groggy when you wake up, you are probably using too much. I've been using Melatonin since the biggest pill you could get was 1/2 mg, I can't even find that size anymore, you are using about 20x what I still use to "knock myself out" at night. Admittedly, I have no clue why the minimum dose has drifted up as high as it has over the last 20 years.

I've never had to use more than 1mg to go to sleep....

Yup. I know that, this is specifically for covid mitigation - I started it on doc revs recommendation.

I realize that use during the day will cause sleepiness, but I'm in isolation in bedroom anyway, doesnt matter right now if I'm groggy.

I seriously doubt more works be better. 10mg is a lot already so I wouldn't take it multiple times per day.

Don't think I've seen it posted anywhere but is there any chance that taking the cocktail of supplements together with Ivermectin can/will effect the efficacy of the Covid vaccine(s)?? Obviously I have no idea how these things work and was just wondering??
Thanks much.
Don't think it would negatively effect the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer's and Moderna's). Some of the supplements may have immune system boosting properties (Vit D for example may enhance immune system). Boosting the immune system would likely enhance the vaccine effect if anything.

My elderly parents (75 and 78) with multiple comorbidities may have been exposed to Covid over the Christmas weekend. They are both on multiple prescription medications, so all they've been taking thus far is Zinc (both parents) and Vitamin D (mother) for fear of negative drug interactions. I'm very concerned about what might happen if they have contracted the virus. Are all the items in the cocktail safe to take with prescription medications? Can we call your office to speak to someone about specific potential interactions, etc.? Based on past experience, I'm worried that their regular doctor will not be proactive.

Hello, I am former military and was recommended to this forum by an Aggie friend. I had a mild case of Covid two months ago and am experiencing lingering chest pain till this day. Unfortunately, due to living overseas, it has been hard to obtain medical attention because the system is significantly backlogged. Are there any recommendations besides rest and getting heart scans/imaging tests? Thank you for any assistance.

Ask for monoclonal antibody infusion.

I just wanted to thank Dr Coates so much for helping our community! My dad ended up in the hospital Monday with pneumonia and has now tested positive for COVID. My mom was shaken so I suggested she call Dr Coates. He was so generous with his time and counsel. Thank you! Thank you!! I hope you feel better soon!

For free testing, no testing dates/sites have been announced yet but should be available.

https://www.kbtx.com/2020/12/30/free-covid-testing-options-expected-to-continue-in-new-year/

You may also try contacting your PCP or local urgent care centers for testing - Brazos Valley Urgent Care, Aggieland Urgent Care, Caprock ER, etc. Testing may be available for cash payment or paid via your insurance carrier.

CVS has testing too. Walgreens does as well. I know some of them do drive through. You pull up in the drive through lane, they hand you the sample collection kit, you select collect and then drop it in a box.

May need an appointment, but you can schedule online.

Bumping so the docs might see this question. Doc Rev has been trying to get through Covid also but normally he's pretty responsive. If you can, maybe try making a telehealth appt with a US doctor to give you some advice without having to wait?

Really you need a chest X-ray or better yet chest CT to evaluate this further. I would also setup a stress ECHO of your heart. Any cardiologist should be able to order these tests.

Hi Rev, hopefully your case continues to be mild.

My covid course has been minimal symptoms, thankfully. 2 questions:

1.My husband finally got results of his test, he had isolated separately from me just in case. I know this has been discussed several times, but we see nothing wrong with isolating together now. But my isolation ends on the 2nd, and his 10 days isn't over till the 4th. So what do I do on the 2nd? Come and go out of the isolation room?

2. We've followed your vitamin and supplement protocols from the beginning. Is it ok now to pull back to just a multivitamin?

Can you share any insights on why the flu is not prevalent this year? Is it the lack of testing for it? CDC numbers are down significantly for Dec which is normally the 2nd (feb is 1st) worst month in flu season. Thanks in advance.

The theory of mask and social distancing may apply to the coronavirus as well but it continues to spread. These are different viruses but it is still interesting. In several states you just can't seem to get a flu test at all.

Watch the short video linked above. It's a quick explanation about flu. If you don't want to watch that, do some Google searches for scientists' explanation.

Dr. Coates a question about ivermectin, or for anyone else who can authoritatively answer. My wife and I are in our mid 70's and in decent health but are trying to be prepared for any eventuality. I am convinced ivermectin is an important treatment for Covid-19 but cannot find a doctor in Fredericksburg who will prescribe the pills. Can the liquid 1% cattle injectible form be used as a substitute for the pill form? If it can I assume use the same weight formula that is on the label and mix with a juice to drink. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks from an old Ag.

Dr. Coates - first I hope you're getting over this and feeling better.

I tried to call the office but thought I'd reach out on here. My mom (around 60 years old) is having a rough go. She no longer has a PCP (hers retired) and was wondering if you're doing teledoc visits. Btw, we live about a mile up Murphy Rd from the practice.
