I have been helping coordinate the cleanup and relief efforts for the 1463 Campus of Second Baptist Church in Houston. Our 1463 Campus alone has received over 500 requests for help with basic demo work. Second Baptist has six campuses across the Houston area and all of them have multiple requests for help.

I know many of you have gone back to work, but if you can help please go to Second.org, look for the "Volunteer" link, and sign up to volunteer. Our Second Baptist 1463 Campus is sending out volunteers every day to help people. Please come to our 1463 Campus at 9:00 AM and we will put you on a volunteer team. If you are willing to be a "Crew Chief" we will give you some training and send you out with a team of volunteers.

The other Second Baptist campuses are all doing the same thing as the 1463 Campus, and I know other churches are coordinating relief/cleanup efforts also such as First Baptist Houston.

We need volunteers every day this week, and we are making a big push for volunteers for this Friday and Saturday. I know we are in football season and we have a game on Saturday night against Nicholls State (6:00 PM), but sometimes other things are more important than Aggie football. And this is one of those times.

Yes, we should say Beat the Hell out of Nicholls State, but it also time to Beat the Hell out of Harvey and not just wear a t-shirt, but put ourselves into action to help others in need!

Thanks and Gig'em!

The urgent need for volunteers still exists and will likely exist for a while.

The 1463 Campus of Second Baptist Church still has at least 100 homes in their queue that need basic demolition work and cleanup. And Second's other five campuses still have many homes and families that need help as well.

There is an urgent need for volunteers this Friday 9/8/17, Saturday 9/9/17, and Sunday 9/10/17. We are asking people to consider taking off Friday to help, and we are asking CEOs and Presidents to consider allowing their people to take off tomorrow (Friday 9/8/17) to help with this cleanup effort.

We also need people to volunteer as "Crew Chiefs" to lead a group of volunteers at each home. If you live in the Katy area or you are on the west side of Houston and you are willing to be a Crew Chief, please report to the Second Baptist Church 1463 Campus located at 5757 FM 1463, Katy TX at 8:00 AM on Friday and/or Saturday morning to receive instructions and training to be a Crew Chief. You do not have to be a contractor or home remodeler to be a Crew Chief. We just need people willing to lead.

If you only want to volunteer and not be a Crew Chief, then please report to the 1463 Campus lobby between 8:45-9:00 AM this Friday and/or Saturday morning to see a video about the demo work and safety and to be deployed on a volunteer team.

The volunteer work we do on Sunday will most likely be done Sunday afternoon after the worship service.

Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes and bring work gloves and safety glasses if you have them.

As an encouragement for other Aggies or readers of TexAgs to volunteer, I just talked with a young Ag who just finished a five week tour offshore and as he is coming home, he reached out to me to volunteer, and he will be at our 1463 Campus tomorrow to be a Crew Chief.

If you live in another area of Houston, Second Baptist has campuses at the following locations: Woodway & Voss (main campus), Cypress (290 and 99), West Campus (Katy Freeway between Fry and Greenhouse), North Campus (Kingwood on Hwy 59 North), and the South Campus (Pearland area). All of the Second Baptist campuses are coordinating demo/cleanup efforts and need help. Just go to Second.org for further information.

You do not need to be a member of Second Baptist or of any church to volunteer. We simply want and need people who are willing to help families in need.

If you have specific questions or want to talk to me, please send me a PM with your phone number and I will give you a call as soon as possible.

Thanks and Gig'em!

I signed up to help and put down the Cypress location as the closest one to me.

I know you need people for tomorrow, but I have an appointment with my insurance adjuster tomorrow morning at 9AM.

Is there a location that needs more help than others? I would be available at about 11AM or so depending on the location.

AggieBaller98,

I do not know which Second Baptist campus has the greatest need at this time.

We have been sending out volunteers from the 1463 Campus at various times during the day as they show up to help. I don't know exactly what the Second Baptist Cypress Campus is doing, but here is what I suggest you consider doing.

After you finish your appointment with your insurance adjuster, I would simply go to the Second Baptist Cypress Campus, ask where volunteers are to go if they want to work in the field, tell them that you signed up to volunteer and that you are now available to help. If the Cypress campus is doing what the 1463 Campus is doing, they will send you out to join a team that is already working on a home.

If the Cypress campus can't put you to work, then come to the 1463 Campus and we will find a place for you to go. If you want to PM me to make sure the 1463 Campus has a place to send you, then do so and I will make sure we can put you to work before you make the drive.

Also, if the Cypress campus doesn't need you on Saturday, then come to the 1463 Campus at 8:45 AM and we will send you out to work.

Thanks!!
