RELIEF FLIGHTS: Need suppliers

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm working with a 501c3 non-profit, AERObridge (www.aerobridge.org), to transport the most critical supplies down to the coastal areas via airplane. Rockport is one of the more immediate areas in need, but all are open for delivery. A priority list of supplies is on the AERObridge website. Airplanes are being used to transport essentials, but they are not moving water (weight) or non-essentials (teddy bears, strollers, etc.).

I had planned to fly supplies non-stop out of San Antonio all weekend, but it appears that lots of folks down in the metro areas have either already tapped out the local grocers and sent them onward, or they are being gas conscious. I've found donors to sponsor all the fuel I can burn this weekend.

I need 'Ol Rock to gather an entire cache of supplies and get them to an airport for pickup. E-mail your church congregation, HOA, etc,. and run a short food drive. Call your food bank and tell them you've got somebody willing to pick up if they'll supply. We'll take pet food from the humane society if they can spare it.

I'll pick up loads from any airport pretty much anywhere east of Abilene on down south. (That's not a hard rule... you get enough together and I'll find somebody to get it here). I'm counting them in 100 lb units and can carry up to 350 lbs at a time. I'll also evacuate folks on the backhaul.

Please let me know if you can help. Please email me at (edit: JRay06@gmail.com) and PM me here with your cell phone.

Update 9PM:

I am absolutely amazed at how many of you have already reached out. I've now got at least three loads scheduled for Saturday coming from DFW, San Antonio, and Austin. These are headed to Rockport, Corpus, and (TBD). As offers keep coming in, know that if you live near a supply depot (DFW / Austin / San Antonio / Phoenix), you do not need to schedule a drop off. Just take it to the businesses listed above and if I can't get to them, another pilot will.

As I write this I just got word of another plane offered up in San Antonio. He's ready for missions tomorrow. So far we have over a dozen aircraft in the air tomorrow, and they're all hauling. Put simply: this is awesome.

It's come to my attention that I'm limited to daily number of posts (5). I'll start editing my last post if I run out. Someone has offered to communicate on the boards on my behalf and coordinate while I'm in the air, and I'll update once that person has accepted the job.

Thanks & Gig'em

Jeff

Jeff asked that the following be shared:

Supplies can be dropped off. It is not necessary to contact him. Aerobridge.org coordinates with the depots and will call out other pilots if Jeff has another load.

Loads of 300 to 500 pounds can be taken. That is equal to 2 to 3 shopping carts depending upon density. If possible write weight on top of package in black marker.

If loads are collected for transport in other areas contact your airport's Fixed Base Operator that handles matters for non-commercial flights. Ask if they will hold supplies for pilots. Typically they will say yes. Then contact Aerobridge.org Alan Staats: astaats@aerobridge.org Marianne Stevenson: mstevenson@aerobridge.org

Please note that the items on the list represent what is needed. DO NOT bring clothes to the donation sites as they will simply be turned over to GoodWill or an equivalent charity.

There are about 30 70-pint dehumidifiers at Lowe's on Highway 6 and FM 529 near Copperfield. This is just by the front entrance. There may be more in the store.

Just dropped off four chainsaws with extra chains, and 2 boxes of the other supplies in San Antonio at Million Air.

Didn't look like they've had much activity today.

Momlaw,
Thanks.
Aerobridge just called me to get details for a pickup. The gentleman said they were starting to route supplies over the Beaumont\Port Arthur area.

Good to know they can get into the eastern areas.

Their first mission was getting medicines into Houston area.

I am impressed with their operation. It looks like minimal overhead leveraging volunteers, equipment, and contributions for maximum impact.

I just wanted to thank you for posting this and the ease of coordinating after receiving an email from me just hours ago. I just dropped off a little over 500 lbs of dog and cat food at the Austin airport. It was super easy. A pilot called me and we coordinated a time, drove up to the plane, and loaded it all up.
Y'all are doing a great service and we should have more donations soon.

Austin area Ags are really in the game on this. Let your friends and neighbors know anyone can participate. That food was likely feeding animals within an hour or two.

We could fairly easily set up a staging area in Aggieland if we have those willing to give. Bet we could recruit more Aggie pilots to join with Aerobridge in this effort.

I am so glad Jeff made us aware.

Alright folks, what a day!

First I have to thank momlaue for spreading the word to everyone. She's done an amazing job directing people towards drop points when I just haven't been able to answer.

Thanks to everyone who has supplied a load thus far. It really gets me and the other pilots pumped up to read messages like "I'm going to go buy every bottle of bug juice in the tri county area..." and "I've got a 1000 lbs of dog food. It'll be at the airport by...."

Today's drop went extremely well after I got off the ground. (Hint: planes start better with keys). We dropped a mixed load in Corpus and they were glad to have the supplies. Apparently they've got enough diapers in Corpus to last a while... I understand we're starting to shift some flight to other areas such as Port A and BMT.

Hand saws and gloves and bug juice were big hits today. Some of you sent in chainsaws and pet food, and although I didn't personally fly them, I know they were moved quickly. Know that you have my thanks if we have not had the chance to speak.

Today proved that the airplanes are fully mobilized and ready to rock and roll. Now is the time to get your phone books and email lists out. Get your local clubs and organizations notified, and ask potential donors to match each other. Maybe it's your HOA or rotary club. Whistle 'em up! Some of you may have business relationships that allow you to leverage customer / supplier relationships. Don't hesitate. Make the call.

I'm proud of the work we've done today. I'll beg you for more support tomorrow!

I have had the pleasure of working with Jeff and Aerobridge since Jeff first posted Friday.
In the process I've observed that Aerobridge is a top notch outfit. They prioritize those in need and identify specific needs. This is an ongoing worldwide effort that is focused on leveraging volunteers and donations to accomplish missions.

Aerobridge Update
Ground situation has shifted from response to recovery.
Most urgently need:
School supplies
Tools and materials related to remediation of mold and rebuilding

Major airlift Saturday 9 September
School supplies for children of Port Arthur and surrounding areas, one of most economically challenged in Harvey's wake

ANY aircraft that want to participate in this airlift should contact Eric Whyte
at ewhyte@aerobridge.org or Alan Staats atastaats@aerobridge.org or 602.790.2636.A

Significant possibility Harvey airlift will shift to support areas impacted by Irma.

If you are in the Dallas, San Antonio, Austin area please note depots above where you can drop off, tell personnel it is for Aerobridge. If you email me, momlaw76@gmail.com, I will pass along to Jeff and Aerobridge.

If you are in Aggieland contact me per above. We cannot ask Aerobridge to fly in for less than 300#s. They are making their second trip here this morning for 1750#s of pet food, supplies and meds headed to deep east Texas.

If you are in another non depot area and have bulk supplies contact me per above. Last weekend pilots had massive airlift out of Georgetown. It can be arranged.

Last major Aerobridge effort in Harvey Zone. Moving on to Irma Sunday.

School Supplies for Port Arthur southeast area school systems, both economically challenged and Harvey devastated.

There are depots for drop offs at following locations. Clearly specify Aerobridge.

If you are in Aggieland you can drop off at Eye Candy Salon, 900 Harvey Rd, College Station before 5:30 this afternoon.

If I know you and can trust you I am willing to take pledges. I'll be making purchases on clearance aisles to maximize bang for $. momlaw76@gmail.com

We are delivering to airport this evening for early morning pick up.
