Bump as well.

Waiting on some official organized demo volunteering, but more than willing to help out anywhere. I have limited tools (shovel, box cutter, hammer), located in Katy, but can get to most places around town now. Would love to help some fellow Ags.

It may be a few days before people can even get back into their homes and start the demo process.

I also would love to help out in this regard. I live in the galleria area but would go anywhere. Have some tools (chop saw, recip saw, circular saw, etc).

I'm available for most the day tomorrow. PM me or respond here if you need help.

Grab gloves, a wallboard saw, a hammer, prybar, a mask, safety glasses, and maybe a screwdriver. Wheelbarrows, heavy trash bags, and big trash cans help too. Then go to one of the bad hit places and knock on the door. Lots of people needing help!

I could use some help clearing my mom's house. Need to pull carpet/furniture/drywall etc.

She's located near 1960 and I-45.

Send me an email at

maroonentertainment@gmail.com for details if you are interested and able.

It's a daunting task. We just lost her mother a couple months ago so we have a lot of stuff to sort through.

I could certainly use some help, but I am not nearly a high priority. First of all, we Wont be able to get back in until at least saturday and water probably wont stop flowing until sunday.

also, my wife and i are in our late 40's and healthy, no small kids... so we can still do stuff.

third, our flood is tougher than most as we have lots of farm/ranch stuff, barbed wire, heavy stuff, and it is river mud so really nasty.

i deliberately didnt let anyone come help last time, it was so bad. We have 3 neighbors nearby, and they were in the same boat, so we helped each other out instead of having anyone else come in. Unfortunately they are not able to help this time.

so it is only for the brave of heart, and only after more needy people get help.

So if anyone is feeling salty in the simonton area next week, let me know, otherwise please help those more in need.

All 6 Second Baptist locations are coordinating cleanup efforts. Sign up here if you'd like help with your home OR if you want to volunteer. Home Remediation

We were in old Katy today, and I'm taking a crew out tomorrow. CBR, go ahead and sign up, man. We'll get it done! This will be a lengthy process I'm sure to get everyone. Fortunately, we can get to some homes NOW. For those worse off, don't worry, lots of good folks out here; you won't be forgotten.

I just drove down Kings Forest Dr off of Woodland Hills and looked for people working. There was a mob of volunteers working its way down the street.

Idea: Would it be possible to mobilize the Big Event over the next month to help houses take out drywall and carpet from flooded houses? There are a lot of homes that are in the Barker/Addicks reservoir that will be underwater for weeks, so they would need help at a time when volunteers would be not as prevalent.

I have a practically new circular saw I'd be happy to let someone have. It's a Craftsman. Based on my understanding if you set it to a half inch you can use it to cut your drywall at 4 ft quickly. If you want it let me know.

Howdy! I am from Port Arthur, Texas. I have a 1100 square foot house that I may need some help with as well as numerous Aggies in that area. The area is still in rescue mode and the water has not gone down yet. I do know that once the water goes down then demolition can begin such as carrying out items that are wet, pulling up carpet, setting up fans and dehumidifiers to help prevent mold, etc. Please contact me if any of you plan to be in that area at some point. My email is kclarke@tamu.edu or hurricanekelly2017@gmail.com. Thanks.

Helping a friend this weekend. A few newbie questions for those with experience:

1. If the water has completely receded, is it ok to turn the electricity back on or does it depend on the water line being above power outlets?
2. Any tips for what height above the water line to cut at?
3. How do you cut around power outlets, cable, laundry room connections, etc. without knowing where the stuff you may accidentally cut is?
4. If my friend does not have any box fans or dehumidifiers, are they available at the big box stores or are they out? Does it still help doing this work if we have no or few fans?

Thanks guys. Lookibg forward to help and learn what I can this weekend and beyond if anyone else needs some cheap free but unskilled labor.

1. Turn the master on first. Make sure you're on dry ground. If it didn't get above the outlets it's probably fine. Switch the circuits on one at a time. If any pop, leave them off.

2. Minimum 12" above the wet sheetrock, which will be above the waterline. Easiest is to go to 4' or the seam.

3. Be careful don't use a saw, it makes a lot of dust. You can just score the tape with a utility knife and pull it off by hand. Kick a hole in the bottom and work your way up.

4. Get as many as you can. Window units work as well.

Ive spent the past 2 days mucking out homes...

I strongly suggest requiring power off when removing sheetrock.

Our process is the following:
1. Make homeowner document their home with video
2. Remove all wet stuff like furniture and dump on curb.
3.remove flooring as needed. Cut carpet in smaller parts...its heavy.
4. Remove doors and frames....big crowbars work great for this.
5. Remove sheetrock....usually we go to 4 ft, unless water only went up 6.to 12". We use a chalkline, and run a box cutter on the line. No need for saws on this...make too much dust. Use crowbars, hammers, and hands.
6. Remove baseboards...crowbars and hammers here
7. Pull out insulation...pocket knives work good here. Make sure and get above the water line, but dont oull it down from above.
8. Dump it all on the ground, pick up, put in wheel barrows and dump on curb. Flat headed shovels, metal snow shovels are awesome, large brooms are nice.

9. Be careful and safe.

We recommend using humans that are 14 and older.

Pretty much all of the active churches are trying to get programs rolling to help in an organized fashion. Here are a few links to their harvey pages, these all have places to sign up both for those needing help and for those wanting to help.

Interesting video on how to take out sheet rock. Looks really fast... folks at the house I was at yesterday were sawing all around, and this looks like it would save a lot of time.

Is anyone in the Texas city/la marque area? My dad's elderly neighbors still have wet carpet in their house that needs to be removed. My dad is not physically able to help them. I'm not sure if there is anything else. House only got a few inches.

This. That's why they say go four feet. That's typically going to be where the sheets butt together. No need to cut with box cutter or saw. It will have to be taped, floated and textured when repaired. Any paper damage to the sheet above can be fixed at that time.

Insurance agent told me 4 feet...or at least 1 foot higher than it flooded.

We heard that trash needs to be sorted by type for pickup as different stuff gets disposed of differently. For example, split up by appliances, furniture, sheetrock and insulation, general trash in bags.

I'm not sure if this is really needed but a lot of the houses in Spring we're doing this.

I just reached out to a friend who lives in Hitchcock and knows a lot of people to see if she knows anyone who might be able to help. If you private message me the address I can provide it to her. Can't make any guarantees but, hopefully, we can get these folks some help.
