My wife and I are moving back to Houston on the 11th from Northern VA. We're extremely fortunate that our new house in Oak Forests survived the flood, and we want to help out with cleanup any way we can. Since we will have a moving truck, this may be a good opportunity to bring in some needed supplies.

I have been thinking of buying a generator and beefing up my power tool collection, which is fairly limited at the moment. Any suggestions on what we should bring down? What is running low at the moment? Any other supplies that would be useful?

I would also be happy to buy generators/tools and sell them at cost to anyone who wants/needs them. We have already donated some to the relief efforts but are somewhat low on cash given the recent house purchase.

EDIT: I realize this post may be a bit early. I'm sure it's hard to say at this point what will still be needed a week and a half from now, but I wanted to start planning now if possible. I wish I could get down there sooner to help.

Gloves and face mask for the cleanup. It is going to be ugly for a while

Same with keyhole saws for the dry wall and any and all types of fans

ETA: might be good to bring more water and baby formula too

Power isn't a major issue so I wouldn't worry about generators. I'd bring blowers/fans. Utility knives and sheetrock saws. Tools to pop baseboards.

Yep flat crowbars and flat skinny shovels work good

Thanks for the advice. I'll start doing some reading about post-flood remediation and start buying tools based on what I find. I already have a keyhole saw and a few utility knives, but will look to add some of the others items mentioned here as well.

Dehumidifiers and construction debris disposal bags.
