Folks in Kingwood/Humble - I don't know what the contractor situation is and I'm not posting this for my family as my dad is retired Exxon (not a contractor) and my parents house flooded.

However, he has a buddy that owns a contracting firm that has done all the work in the past on his house - and his house is a custom home modeled as a northeastern colonial, VERY unusual for Kingwood - all first rate work. They've already got a full crew assembled and are just waiting for the waters to recede enough to get in and begin tear down.

Anyway, if you want a fair deal I can put you in touch with them.

The waters on Kingwood Drive near King's Forest receded over night (they went out FAST), and we were able to start demoing the first floor and garage. The outpouring of support was tremendous. I had people I didn't know just roll up to my house and start working.

Also, does anyone know the status of the bridge to Atascocita? I don't feel like driving to my inlaws via The Woodlands.

Coming from San Antonio to help our friends out in the Barrington. Anyone have advice on the best way to get there? Have to stop off in Katy to drop our daughter off with grandparents.
Thank you!!!

Exit Kingwood Drive, turn right on Woodland Hills and Barrington will be on your left.

Thanks, GS. Can we get there on 59? Or do we need to take 99 around?

2 1/2' in my home in Kings' Forest. Thanks to my friends at Kingwood First Baptist, CPChem, and neighbors for helping gut it and move my family. We also won the tree fall derby, with more to come - 1.2 acres of heavily wooded lot.

So proud of the San Jacinto River Authority and Lake Conroe for being a whole 6' below release level before the deluge hit. Every weather report for days said we were getting a minimum of 12", and like 18+". They had days to start releasing water beforehand, but they are really patting themselves on the back for how they helped control the flooding.

So my parents got a couple inches in their home.

They torn the carpets out and are working on the walls. They've cleaned up some of the ref and have an adjuster coming in the next couple days to review.

In the meantime they are still living in the house. That can't be safe right?

The drywall guy didn't show up today and my parents could use a bit of help. Pretty simple job at this point.

My parents are in Royal Shores.

1. Finish tearing baseboards out. About half the house to go.

2. Rip drywall out at 2 feet. Most of this is marked off already

Work done!

Spent the last three days working cleanup in Fosters Mill.

Some observations:

1) Police are absolutely nonexistent. It is such a free for all over there that private citizens have set up checkpoints and have directed traffic to alleviate logjams. Some seedy characters have been going through lots down in the Estates section as there were so many people, particularly Saturday, that no one knew who should or should not be there. I literally did not see one police car in the neighborhood and was there pretty much dawn to dusk for three days. That would be fine except the people in Kingwood pay astronomical taxes to Houston. Also never saw the Red Cross - I guess they only help where there is a photo op.

2) Neighbors are really coming together, but still lots of work to do.

3) Bulk debris pickup has been happening for the last couple of days and is progressing nicely.

4) Post office is a disaster. Went to pickup mail and after a long waitd they said it had been delivered. Then they said we simply didn't have any mail. After a little more interrogation, found out that they "hadn't sorted" the mail.

5) There was a clip of the Mayor supposedly in Fosters Mill. I have no idea when that was or if that's true. I never saw any official vehicles at all so it seems weird, and I was in the heart of the flood area.

I went over to my inlaws on Monday and there was a HPD F-150 there at Kingwood Dr and Willow Terrace on the sidewalk, and then there was another one at each entrance to Scenic Shore. I did notice that there wasn't at Fosters Mill but there were people checking cars as they entered. I went and helped at Kingwood Greens later that afternoon and there wasn't anybody doing any kind of checks there, just a sign for entrance and another down LHP for exit. Honestly, I'm not sure what people should expect from HPD. You can't have tons of resources there, but you also can't have none. Overall, it's just a bad situation and it seems neighbors are doing what's best by taking the initiative themselves.

Response when pressed for proof:
I actually have 6 links, and was getting super pissed the more info I looked up...So, look it up yourself, I am not going to fight about something I know to be true, to a person who would just as soon see me in prison or dead.
