I left cypress yesterday to head to Austin. Roads to AVOID barker cypress and fry near 290. If you can get to 290 take hey 6 to west road and that will take you all the way to at least greenhouse.

If I get on 290 heading into town at Spring Cypress, can I exit on Highway 6 or even West? Even though I live off of Telge (North of 290), I need to get to one of our offices near Telge/West. I tried yesterday and gave up, but was afraid to get on 290.

Sad but true. People are grieving - eventually it will lead to anger and lashing out. It's just part of the process.

EDIT: Where was that post about what to do when your house get water? What to clean, cut out, throw away, run AC unit, get a dehumidifier, dealing with FEMA, etc...???

I heard somewhere that he has water in his house maybe? If so, it would be nice to have something like the final scene in "the patriot" happen. Have him come home and find a team of folks working to help his wife get his house fixed up.

WHY THE **** DO YOU THINK?!! IT RAINED A LOT!! AT SOME POINT THERE IS NOTHING MORE THAT CAN BE DONE!!

I almost unloaded every curse word know to man right next to my 4 year old, but held on. I just can't stand stupidity on that level.

don't forget the question where some other (or maybe the same) female asked where he lived and if he was affected?

He shut her up nicely stating that he does live around one of the reservoirs... which is telling how much faith he has in them.

My Friday flight into Hobby was cancelled.
It was strange, on Monday, their Thurs spirit flight was cancelled. Spirit didn't have crap for friday, just one flight that was like a 12 hour journey from Hou to Den. Normally they have a nonstop, so it's obviously gone.

Anyway, so my mom just booked a Fri. AM flight SW.com, after the cancelled spirit flight. It was HOU-DEN departing at like 10am.

Then that flight was canceled last night, so she called southwest, and they said the cancellation of that flight was unrelated to Harvey. It was the only one canceled on Friday. She told my mom the only flights they were permanently canceling at that time were up through Thursday morning. Then she switched my parents to a Friday 2:20pm flight Hou-DEN.

It's obviously very much up in the air. I'm maybe 60% sure it will happen.

Maybe they are canceling more flights that are arriving to Houston than departing?

I'll be honest, I have mixed feelings about FEMA being here.

I know the area needs their resources, but I'm wary of them trying to wrestle control of the relief efforts away from the local authorities who have done pretty well so far.

She may have a better chance on united since it's hub to hub to denver. You may not want to go to IAH but may be an option is IAH opens

Does anybody have any hints about when Hobby may reopen for incoming flights? My sister is supposed to fly home Thursday, and is trying to figure out whether to stick to the flights or come into San Antonio and rent a car to drive over.
my parents just got a friday flight and were told flights are canceled up through Thursday morning.... so according to that, Thursday afternoon.
Hmm, because my sister's flight wasn't supposed to come in until Thursday night late, and she just got a cancellation notice from them.
Read above; maybe what the lady told my parents are for flights flying out of Houston? Flights coming into Houston might have more cancellations?

Who knows.

This is the route that was reported to be driveable yesterday: 45S --> 190W --> 6S --> 290E.

They were initially IAH, but spirit. SW is hub to hub to DEN isn't it?

They prefer Hobby, cause they live in midtown during the week. Hobby is a way easier drive arriving on Tuesday AM.

Eh...Local authorities can only do so much.

FEMA can get people out of shelters and in hotels and temp housing. They're important in making the transition from first response to recovery.

But I do get what you're saying. Our local folks have been absolutely outstanding.

She rebooked into San Antonio coming in Friday night. Supposedly got the last two seats on that flight.

Couple pages back. Here it is:
Quote:

Quote:

1) If you have not flooded yet, put pots and pans under the four legs of your table. If the water is only a few inches, the table will come through unscathed.

2) Anything in your house that's been thoroughly touched by flood water is compromised and has to go. There's no telling what was in the water and there's no amount of bleach that can make it safe enough to stay in your house.

3) Your mattress will float. Put stuff on it if you need too.

4) Triple check the measurements and quantities that the insurance adjuster has on you proof of loss.

5) On your home A/Cs:

If your outside unit (the Condenser) goes under, your insurance (hopefully you have it) is obliged to pay for replacement of it. It may still work although it's long-term usefulness is compromised. After the Condenser is completely no longer in flood water and you have electrical service, give it a try. If you can use it to dehumidify the interior of the house more quickly, do it. Set them to as low as they will go and let them eat.

6) Go through each room and take pictures, plenty of them.

7) Even if you don't flood, have your home sprayed for pests as soon as the waters recede. Bugs head for high ground just like the rest of us.

8) Don't forget to put tools up high with your valuables! You'll need them later.

9) Bring something to cut yourself out of the attic if you have to go there. Also try not to fall asleep in the attic.

10) Beware of the predators preying on your struggles. Everyone will come at you from cleaning crews to drywall contractors. Unless you are handicap or elderly, demo your house yourself. Those guys wanted to charge me $6000 for stuff I did myself. You're gonna need that 6000-9000 savings. Dehumidifiers will be hard to come by. You'll need one or two to pull all the moisture out of your house. Order them now online or be the first one in line when Home Depot or Lowes open. If you have to wait on shipments to come in, you're gonna be waiting a few weeks and it will be cheap junk. Bleach is not the best way to kill mold as it only treats the surface. Buy the good stuff made to kill mold, it soakes into the wood and lasts longer. That's all I used and I have not had one single problem.

The best advice I can give you is this. Everyday just do something. Eventually you'll see progress. It took us 8 months to get our 1500sq ft house back 100%. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon.

11) Don't go back home without a couple of dehumidifiers in tow.
