Oof. Latest models show another system developing in the Gulf and coming north to Texas (read: more rain). Plus that other disturbance in the Atlantic.

And the 5-day forecast rain totals starting Saturday morning (9/2).

fuuuuuuck me

Can anyone comment on that storm headed to the gulf? Is this a mirror image of where Harvey was - anything else to add?

Thank the east TX first responders, we are just observers and supporting them how we can.

I thought the whole thing with Harvey was those two highs just keeping it in one spot. I would assume the scenario has changed significantly since then.

Two notes - the water in the Gulf is somewhat cooler now due to Harvey (seeing temps in the 80-81 range, as opposed to 90 for Harvey. So that would somewhat limit the ability of it to intensify (though it could still develop to some extent, just not go zero to cat4 like Harvey).

Second, it should progress out of the region quicker than Harvey - winds aloft (that would steer the storm) have dropped down from the Dakotas to Texas. But the rain fall models vary from 6-18" of rain for southeast Texas if it stays together and makes landfall there.

I'm not sure we could handle another inch. Much less 6. Heaven help us all at 18.

Storm2k thread just started discussing it.

Is anyone else seeing a new tropical low/storm thing on the GFS bringing even more rain to Houston in 7-10 days? It's had it for the past couple of runs.

I'm looking for a link, pro Mets have confirmed.

Apparently the overnight Euro run had it too. This isn't good.

Agreed. At this point, we've got 3.5 days until landfall for it (sometime late Friday night / early Saturday), let's hope something points that in a different direction. Either west / south of Corpus, or northeast to Mississippi / Alabama.

It's been largely glossed over, but Florida had a tropical disturbance stuck over them for several days too. Several areas in the southeast coast (Ft. Myers, etc.) got 18-20" of rain. And that storm in the atlantic might be headed their way.

everyone else is out of cars. ugh.
My dad just bought a new car one month ago because some drunk ahole who had been on the links all day backed out of his driveway and totaled his car. My mom got a new car in December. My dad also had a vintage 1966 Mustang that he had been maintaining since the 70s.

All are destroyed.

Man watching my hometown underwater like this from afar is brutal. Went through a similar flooding event in 2011 in Minot ND where water was over roofs in much of the town. The one positive for folks back home who have flooded is that they won't have to deal with flooded basements.

That's what I was gonna suggest. Hell if my recently employed friend in Hemet was still unemployed I bet you he'd drive you back from CA.

I second this as for watching it from afar. Our A&M club has chose to treat the first game watch party as a fundraiser though. Hopefully other clubs have the same idea and we can help out with donations.

See if you can find a rental place offsite (non-airport) and cab/uber it to there to pick up the ride (guess if it's Enterprise, they could even come get you).

Mustang might survive, there isn't a lot in the way of electronics in there too fry, and mechanicals / soft parts are rebuildable and replaceable.

Can you get to Love Field and rent a car there? Can any DFW ags help you get from DFW airport to a rental place that has a car? (I'm in Boerne, not plano, so unfortunately not me)

If you are in a neighborhood on the backside of A D D I C K S or Barker and care to find out your elevation, I was just informed of this website.

Look up an elevation by address

We are riding it out in Bayou Vista just outside of the Galveston Causeway. Water came up very high but Bayou Vista is OK for the most part. I might be over optimistic but I think we are seeing the backside of Harvey right now. Sky is much brighter than it has been and the water is a starting to recede. We have power and supplies so anyone in need is welcome .

The reporters that keep saying this flooding is because of the release from the reservoirs is irrationally infuriating

Yep. At one point a field reporter reported it that way and the anchor corrected her. Next time they went back to her she was back to saying it wrong.

I have a 6x6 high water army cargo truck I was going to take down to Houston. I read that Harris county is no longer asking for boats/trucks. I have friends along the south I45 corridor I could help out but no way to get to them(from what Ive seen). Anyone know of other areas in need of assistance? I would be coming from B/CS.
