Spirit Airlines was able to get a special emergency flight to evacuate 180 people from Houston to Detroit and Chicago .

At first I was like:

so that they may re-book flights and continue their journeys

And then I was like:\

They cancelled their flights all the way till noon on Friday at hobby. I hope that they will resume fights starting Friday. Some of my Houston friends will need the vacation we had planned this weekend, after all this.

Most of that cost was because of the insane property values along the east coast I'm guessing

Lost contact with my parents today. As of yesterday the yard was flooding but water had not yet entered the house. Their power must be out now because the answering machine doesn't pick up on the home phone. They are in Kingwood.

Kind of wishing I had gone down there when it was till passable.

To check power outages, zoom in to specific area in question.

I suppose Katrina hitting $100b + was because of all that expensive property too?

Don't downplay it. The storm surge flooded NYC, subway system flooded, etc. There are a lot more buildings and people there than in Houston, so naturally, the loss adds up. Plus a couple hundred lives lost.

Have a friend stuck in hotel at JFK & Beltway near IAH. I believe she's a nurse & she said she was on call for her job. I live near JV, but I think Beltway is shutdown between Hardy and JFK. Any ideas on how I could get to her? She has a cousin watching her children in the Richmond/Sugar Land area.

Fire, I've got a friend with some elderly in Lakes of Eldridge. Do you have a boat to get them somewhere accessible by car?

Probably because they're going on very little sleep and everyone who drives up wants to ask them questions.

(Not being snarky, but I'm guessing that's the reason).

I'm sure it plays a big role and I'm sure other residents are getting pissed at the so they take it out on innocent folks like myself. What really bothers me is the guy could have told me to take Glen Loch and instead he refused to have a conversation. Almost all of the roads off sawdust are reachable if you come from the right direction (at least between millbend and glen Loch). I figured this out myself by driving around, but I don't see why that wouldn't be his first comment to people.
Do you what working nearly continuously for multiple days feels like? I'm sorry they hurt your feeling by not feeding you information that they might not have even had.

Anyone out in baytown , or know what to expect out there? My parents ( at 146 & I-10) have about a foot of water outside their door, a couple inches in their house already. I'm out of state, not tapped into all the local resources, curious what I need to advise them to do.

What is their address or cross streets near them? Lots of places don't have power, but aren't flooding.

Which neighborhood are they in? I've got friends who are running boats along Cedar Bayou picking up folks in Pinehurst, Whispering Pines, and other parts. My two brothers are also running airboats out in Cove and Mont Belvieu. I can try to get you a contact number.

Agreed. "Stay off the roads. Stay off the roads. Stay off the roads." Guy pulls up (on the road) and asks where *else* he can go. I'd be snarky too.

We've got a pair of kayaks and a truck in West U. If someone can point me to a place that I can get to from here where they will be useful, I'll try to load up and head that way.

Yes I know what it's like. I've worked 120 hour weeks. That is no excuse to not do your job in a professional manner. If you think that it's ok for law enforcement officers to be *******s because their job gets tough and stressful in these situations, I guess we can agree to disagree.

Lessons Learned from a life long friends that were flooded in the 2016 Baton Rouge Flood:

FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING: Call the nearest dry storage place & reserve 2 climate controlled units! You may be able to reserve these online today? You can always cancel one if you need to, but you don't realize how much stuff you will have to store. Also note that most places will not allow you to store anything wet or damp. If your cars are under water, call ASAP to your insurance to report it & rent a car or buy a new one. They will be so hard to come by. You'll also need a place to live as close to home as possible. Get on Craigslist & start calling houses for rent that may stay dry. Again, you can cancel if you need to. Buy/rent the biggest dehumidifiers & fans you can find. They are a HUGE help when you get back in & will be impossible to find. Order Dry Rid from Amazon to put in cabinets & in storage units. They absorb moisture from the air & can help get the inside of stuff dry. Register for FEMA assistance ASAP. The higher you are on the list, the faster you can schedule your inspection & get help.

Shopping list for clean up:
As many storage bins & industrial trash bags you can buy, dollies with wheels on the bottom for moving furniture & even storing to let the bottom of furniture dry out, fans, bleach, cleaning supplies, mops, big brooms, dehumidifiers, mold killer & pump sprayer to spray after drywall is removed, razor knives or box cutters with lots of extra blades, bubble wrap for packing up breakables, crow bars, generator if you don't have one, gloves (heavy duty & plastic), bottled water, shovels with flat end, wheel barrow.
This stuff will disappear from shelves quick in the few stores that will actually be open, so stock up!

Clean Up Tips:
Pull up wood & carpet down to the concrete. Cut out drywall to the greater of 4' or 12" above the water line. Drywall comes in 4' sheets so you can easily install them if 4' has been cut out. REMOVE DRYWALL & INSULATION FROM EXTERIOR WALLS FIRST! That insulation is just sitting in there holding water.
If you can remove the drywall from behind cabinets from another room, the cabinet frame could be ok, so don't destroy them right away like people will tell you to do. Ours were fine.
Get A/C serviced ASAP & get them running! This is crucial to start the drying process. Call to schedule appt to be high on their list. Same with house generator if you have one. RUN A/C ALL THE TIME. Same with fans & dehumidifiers.
Tip appliances over to drain water out like dishwashers/washers/dryers. Take bottoms off the bottom of fridges/freezers. Don't assume they are ruined. My husband got ALL of our appliances working again after sitting in 2 ft of water.
Cleaning stuff: Rinse everything you can with bleach & have 2 bins - one with bleach & one with clean water to rinse after the bleach clean. Make sure it's completely dry before packing it away in bins.

Dude, get over it.

Officers are human too. They get tired. They get frustrated. They are not immune to poor moments and expecting them to be perfect no matter what is an unrealistic standard. It's an unrealistic standard for anyone.

You also don't know what they may have lost. For all you know, they may have lost everything they own, but they are out there having to deal with people who shouldn't be on the roads, like you.
