Anyone know if the routes to Pearland or Katy from Sugar Land are passable? Like HI6 or BW8? Not sure how up to date the reports I find online are.

Caught in this evacuation in First Colony, so looking for a hotel nearby to stay.
Use google maps and turn on traffic. It shows road closures.

In the middle of kingwood (off lake Houston parkway) it's practically dry here. Backyard is not even collecting water. Street is clear. Anyone know how lake Houston and San Jacinto River are looking and the bridges over the river? I don't think we are out of the woods yet.

Says they can't get a hold of any of the numbers, bus signals all.

They get out? I'm just up the road and have a kayak and waders.

How old are you? Creek? Hamilton? I grew up off grant on gardenglen. House never flooded but I have a lot of memories of cypress creek flooding
I'm 31. Hamilton, Hamilton, then Creek. I grew up off Louetta and Marron. Yeah I remember Grant towards Jones would always flood in the dip near Windwood Church. The highest water ever got at our house was a little past the curb - I guess that was in 94?

I evacuated Grogans Point in the Woodlands last night and am staying with a friend in Shenandoah. I'd like to go back and check on things. From what I saw leaving grogans point I would think driving conditions would be fine everywhere except sawdust. Could I park near south millbend and sawdust and walk or is that water too high to walk through at this point?

I think I heard late yesterday that you can't get in/out of that area. But I'm not certain. Maybe check Gordy Bunch's Facebook page, if you use that. It's actually a good source of info right now.

I'm just to the west of Hilcroft/Willowbend by Parker Elementary. Streets appear ok immediately around us, but I can't see how Hilcroft and N/S Braeswood are passable given what I've seen on the news.

Also, my parents house in Fleetwood did flood when they released. This area has never flooded before. Hope it was worth it, army corps. They have some explaining to do in this city.

Damn Channel 2 keeps saying that the home BEHIND Addicks Reservoir will flood because of the release.

This is the kind of dumbassery that causes confusion.

The ****ing release of water does not cause a flood behind the damn.

Not exactly.

The input to the reservoir is larger than their release. It is going to flood on the backside of these ponds. They are trying to keep the levels from going uncontrolled over the dam spillways.

I'm 33. I did two tours of creek, mixed in with fair and windfern. I'm certain we know at least a few of the same folks. I didn't remember the years of the floods, but I remember there being a few of them. Mixed in with ice storms and tall pines sign being changed to tall peni5, it was an interesting place to grow up.

Lol! I actually told my wife about the Tall Pines (Peni5) thing just last week bc we drove by another similarly named neighborhood. Yeah those damned ice storms were a pain in the ass with all the pine trees.

It's amazing. Like they're not giving it any thought. The houses behind are going to flood due to inflows. It will be somewhat mitigated by the release, not caused by the release!

it is a simple volume balance, but having a value in the output component of the accounting isn't what would cause the flooding. This is how it is being reported incorrectly. It needs to be reported that releasing water from the reservoir doesn't eliminate the risk of flooding upstream.

I'm in kingwood as well. Didn't know there were so many of us. San Jac is projected to be close to the '94 flood.

Post if anyone needs help. Stay safe!

those are the location of the release points

i thought the uncontrolled spillways were at different locations? if not, disregard

those aren't the spillways. Those are the release gates. The spillways are a sort of emergency level control weir.

Agreed.

But what I'm not sure people understand is that the back end flooding happens first, and it is happening even with the releases. The releases are to save the damn functionality and an uncontrolled release east towards bw8 and south to the bayou.

Not completely correct.

The release has no where to go right now so the water will back up around the front side of the dam and do some flooding to homes on the back side.
