Could the latest bands exceeded their rainfall predictions and necessitated the earlier schedule to keep the reservoirs from failing?
Based off their release that is correct.

I'm starting to worry a bit about my flight home on Saturday if this ******* goes back out to sea for a day or two then comes back inland
goug, IAH is closed until tomorrow. Was Amy supposed to head back already? This is TJW by the way, changed my handle.

Amy's family was but we are staying an extra week...they got their flight changed to SFO and are stuck there now...better than Frankfurt but still sucks

Doing alright. Flooding on the streets during heavy rains thus far. We'll see come daylight I suppose but we're planning to hold tight.

Anyone seen any clue as to what sort of path the excess releases from the dams will take once they hit the bayou until they get toward the beltway?

Try the Waze app. It lists a lot of the road closures and might help you get out.

only partially... I'm more wondering how the water will flow. like will the same elevation on the south side of the bayou get it worse than the north side just because of directional velocity? how much will it still flow west to east because of gravity and heading toward lower ground vs heading north/south where the elevation increases the more you get away from the bayou?

Video about Sugar Land evacuations.

Talks about 59' crest and how they are treating it as 800 year flood. 10 mandatory and 10 voluntary evacuation zones depending on which levee you are behind.

I don't understand what everyone is talking about on the addicks release. I am on my mobile. I see the PDF. Are all the colors on the left side of the map who floods if they don't release water? Where do you see who floods when they do release?

Upstream rain and an already full resevoir will/are causing flooding upstream of the resevoir (to the west on the backside) so they're releasing downstream into Buffalo Bayou.

I believe those places are expected to flood regardless if they release or not. The reservoirs are filling up, due to upstream creeks and rain, faster than the dam can release water downstream

Yes, if they don't release it overflows to the colored section on the map and the dam risks failure, in which case it can go anywhere completely uncontrolled. When they control release into BB, its affects the homes along that path, which of course are already over flowing. I don't believe that is shown though.

and with the release, it could cause an already out of the banks buffalo bayou to raise. How much it will raise seems to be very uncertain. I've heard as low as 1ft up to 6ft.

My guess is that they're trying to keep it around or below the maximum levels experienced already.

My understanding is the 4000 cfs release flow is a very small amount for Buffalo which is probably flowing between 30k and 40k cfs. Hopefully the affect to the water surface is minimal.

problem with that is you have bayou at dairy ashford currently sitting at the highest it's been, just over 74'. And that is the first area that has a fws gauge it will hit...

My family is in a mandatory evacuation in Riverstone at Riverstone Blvd and University Blvd. There are conflicting messages as to leave now or in the morning.

Judge Bob Herbert said to wait until daylight, however, FBCOEM tweeted this.

For now, were holding tight until the morning - night driving with flood waters seemed a bit too risky - anyone know anything more definitive??
