I looked at that after the post. My cousin is in the yellow. Has Barker reached 100' yet?

Did they know they were buying a house in a reservoir watershed?

No need to be an *******. If they made it through Allison, and memorial and tax day floods they probably thought they were safe. This is unprecedented.
House was built in 2004 and they purchased in 2014. Their house is on Beech Landing Lane.

Good on Jeff. He had to explain a difficult HEC-RAS problem to a bunch of journalist...

Not at 100 yet.

We live on the west end of the reservoir...our back yard literally falls off about 8 feet down into it.
--------------
This was sent by Harris County flood warning system earlier today:

Attention residents of neighborhoods bordering the Barker Reservoir

Unofficial communication from the Army Corp of Engineers has provided important information regarding homes in and around your subdivision. Due to the urgency of this information and the difficulty of getting a timely official communication from the Harris County Office of Emergency Management, your area HOAs are providing this information to you in an abundance of caution.

The information we currently have from the Army Corp of Engineers is that their weather models, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, shows that water levels inside the Barker Reservoir are expected to peak at 105ft above sea level. This will be a record amount for the reservoir and will bring about significant flooding behind the reservoir, into many of our neighbors homes and streets. The first and lowest elevated homes to flood, at 97ft, will occur around 7pm this evening, the 27th. Waters will continue to rise to peak levels on approximately September 4th, after rains have subsided and bayous have emptied into the reservoir.
--------------

It has been absolutely pouring here the last hour or two...so things are definitely getting worse in this area.

We have a friend who works with the Corp of Engineers... and is very familiar. Said they are predicting flow around the back ends of the dam at 104'.

Good info thanks, you still at home?

My cousin in Grand Lakes just had a major surgery and is recovering alone at his place.

What mechanism did they use to send that? And by that I mean, how did they connect your neighborhood with whatever electronic means they sent you the message?

Sorry. I thought you were trying to say it was their fault. Like the people that get their cars and trucks broken in to.

Northwest Katy off Morton rd. We left my house this morning. Just got a text from next door neighbor they already have an inch of water in their house and rising. Which means my house is the same.

I know its a little late to ask this, but what about all the homeless people who live under highways and on the streets? Does HPD help drive them to shelters? I couldnt imagine being under a highway when this storm rolled in

I don't think he did. Way too hard to predict with more rain coming in.

crap. looks like the reservoir map shows my apt complex elevation at 96.1-97ft. it's on the north end of the reservoir though by kingsland....so i don't know if that end will start to flood first or not. my apt is on the 3rd floor so it's fine...but not the car parked in the first floor garage

Those of you downstream on the Brazos and Colorado be aware it's been raining nonstop upstream between BcS and Austin for 48 hours. It's all headed downstream.

Good question. As crazy as some of them are, instinct to seek higher ground is still there.

Inevitably, there will be some likely floating out to the Gulf by now.

right before the website went down, 15-20 minutes ago, it said it was 7.5 feet above banks. I didn't see how high it is though

Yeah, earlier on Channel 2, they were saying if the Brazos hits the predicted height, there's a chance Sienna Plantation could get flooded. Crazy.

Supposedly around 1913 the Brazos and Colorado merged. If true what would be the catalyst for that to happen again???

I've heard that Greatwood and Sienna Plantation have both been given voluntary evacuation orders due to concern with the Brazos.

That one got sheared off by the flood. As well as the buffalo bayou gauge at downtown. Like Ron white says, it isn't how fast the wind or the water is moving, it is what the water is moving...

We're in heritage park west just northeast of you. Well our house is - we're not in it. People freaking out on nextdoor that water is starting to get into their houses. No idea how our house is doing and its killing us.

It is true that it happened. I think a lot more water upstream would need to happen, but also at that time, there weren't as many damns (if any) upstream to hold back water.

Sitting at my parents in CS. House so far in OF is ok, but I'm not confident. I've started researching FEMA options for those of us without flood insurance. Seems like once we file a claim with home insurance and recieve a denial of coverage, we can apply for FEMA assistance.
