My sister lives on Rhinebeck, just north of Dixie Farm Road (actually, she's closer to Astoria) just west of I45, and just south of Scarsdale. She left for Denton the storm hit. Anyone know what it's like down there? Does she have water in her house?

Not sure if or how many houses flooded but the news stations were reporting from right around there (the RV dealership) because of the high water. I think they took a pretty good lick there last night.
Combat, have a buddy that lives on Rhinebeck on the other end, in the cul-de-sac, as of this morning his house was ok.

I texted him for current status and will post an update when he gets back to me.

What areas are going to be affected by the dam releases?

West of near clay/Eldridge and west of Westheimer/west park area.

Am I the only one confused by the impacts of this release? I would think they'd be a little more specific about impacted areas..realizing they can't pinpoint every address but some general maps/areas would be nice..

EVERYTHING down Buffalo Bayou will be affected at this point.

I'm pretty sure that's a real life Grand Theft Auto 5 clip.

If they ever do a GTA Houston, a Hurricane needs to be part of the plot.

On topic though, I'm sure the last thing folks want to see when caught in this mess is a microphone in their face.

No, I'm confused, too. I'm pretty sure the release points for Ad***** and Barker are south and east, respectively, but I heard that Ch 2 was reporting Green Trails (I-10 @ Greenhouse) should likely evacuate in the AM.

barker is by the park south of memorial along hwy 6. ad***** is just north of 10 west of eldridge. both feed into buffalo bayou just before eldridge.

Yeah the Green Trails thing threw me. That's west of the dam no?

That's what I thought, but see my prior post, when someone said Green Trails I got confused

i think jt's post has it backwards. those are the areas that are impacted if they don't release water and let the reservoirs build up without releasing anything.

Makes sense, or some idiot at channel 2 doesn't understand how water flows

They are saying the water will back up at the release points which is why homes will flood upstream. I'm just relaying what they've said on news. The locations weren't 100% clear

Sitting in Westbury with power but no tv and internet.

I'm a couple blocks from the waterhole, but so far so good.

It was surreal today watching the coast guard picking people out of their houses earlier.

Why do they need to release water? I've never really known what that reservoir protects.

There was exact same confusion during the tax day and memorial day flooding.

I think it is the way the corps of engineers is saying it.

They are at risk of failing which means 20 foot wall of water from reservoir to downtown.

they must have gotten something mixed up then bc the release point is where i said...by that bike trailhead for terry hershey. green trails is on the back end of the reservoir

yeah, I was confused. The lady on 13 is talking about hoods upstream flooding when they begin releasing.

both release points are easy to find on Google maps, directly into buffalo bayou.

the reservoir controls the flow of buffalo bayou. if they didn't exist everyone along the bayou into downtown would probably be 10 feet under by this point.

as bad as it is along buffalo, imagine if the ad***** and barker were not there to capture the water falling west of town....
Pahdz

I'm really interested in how it's holding up and if there are weak points that are showing increased deterioration since the last major flood, or if new weak spots are showing up
sts7049

that's not entirely accurate. they have to release water in order to keep the levels at a point which the dams are designed to hold. if they released nothing then everyone on the upstream side in cinco etc would be in real trouble. unfortunately they are trying to balance things out a little. release a little...maybe impact a few downstream, but save more on the other side.
Pahdz
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes but that wasn't the dams original intent.

My understanding is that they're only releasing enough to ensure integrity of the dam. It is still going to have unprecedented levels of water that will back up upstream - which is why there is concern for green trails

Would Nottingham country off Fry flood when it is released?
bigtruckguy3500

Houston used to have a lot of rice fields way back in the day before those reservoirs were constructed, because it was always flooding. OR so I'm told.

I doubt you'd see a catastrophic failure like in the movies, but the areas a few miles away would likely get a foot or so of increased water level above what they're already inundated with, and it would back up the already backed up bayous.
sts7049

no. the creek in nottingham drains into barker reservoir. so keeping the reservoir level lower keeps that flow moving.

The map on news 2 has it as I've described. I have a picture from the news can I email to someone to post? How would I do it from iPhone?
