at any point today (maybe later afternoon) would it be possible to take 45 to 59 south trying to get to greenway plaza?

my wife is stuck in Friendswood area
Very unlikely. Greenway Plaza streets flood in much less than this (My office is over at Weslayan and West Alabama).

Houston could get another 30-40" according to the latest. Is there any way out of town? Transtar looks like a nightmare.

Travis Herzog just said 7". Maybe I missed a timeline, bhit that's quite different from 30-40.

Boom. Someone just asked Turner why there were no evacuation orders of any kind.

Why? for a gotcha? Who would evacuate? To where? To grt stuck on flooding freeways? How would you even know who was going to get hit with the worst rains?

I generally don't like Turner, but in my opinion he was very confident in his reasoning.

Whether they chase you down or not isn't really the point. During an emergency you don't need any additional risks.

If the rain actually lets up, I'll take the drone out to get some footage of buffalo bayou. Everyone stay safe.

Might not be a good idea. Advised to not fly model aircraft unless it's approved.

Do it anyway. Keep it low. You might find something that saves a life.

Herzog slightly less apocalyptic. Said if the eye comes closer to Houston we will miss the heavy bands of rain to the east. Also mentioned that dry air was getting sucked into Harvey which is good

Next week

Seriously. The city is under water and freeways like 45, 59, and 288 are inundated with water. Like up to the overpasses with water.

I walked down there to take a look during one of the lulls. It's not pretty. Will post some pics if I get a chance.

It's crazy that 7" seems relatively small compared to expectations. Just shows how crazy this storm is. 7" is still a lot of effing rain.

I liked his explanation and the graphics used to support them. He explained it well for those of us who don't know much about the subject.

No way to predict the rain, other than the 10+ models that showed 20" of rain falling on Houston in the lead up to landfall.

Clowns.

Same models said Rita was going to destroy Houston and when it didn't everyone mocked the people who evacuated. The people I know who stayed had that memory in their mind when they decided to stay.

That is stupid logic.
The chances of a bunch private drones getting in the way of rescues is much higher than them actually doing something positive.

During my entire career, I never understood why there were idiots that thought they knew more than the experienced professionals.

ANYTHING that is airborne and unexpected poses a risk in these types of situations.

From FAA email I got. Don't be stupid.

"The FAA warns unauthorized drone operators that they may be subject to significant fines if they interfere with emergency response operations. Flying a drone without authorization in or near the disaster area may violate federal, state, or local laws and ordinances, even if a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is not in place. Allow first responders to save lives and property without interference."

We've been high and dry in Oak Forest so far. Very thankful for that. We're in newer construction, so a bit higher.

Rain just picked up again.

Lots of others here in OF haven't been so fortunate.

Yeah, I'm up here off Del Norte. Our ditches filled last night and came about 1/4 way up the yard, but have since receded. The more time between these bands the better.

Maybe because they've had experience with "professionals" before. Not everyone has a "wait and hope for the best mentality". He has the ability to see and maybe help safely. Do it.

I hate to be an ass but are people really this stupid??

Wife just got an email from MD Anderson. Just now calling in ride out teams. She's relief team, but coworkers being told to find a way in right now. Night shift are the only ones there right now. Lobby already has water.

What they do is important but how in the world are they supposed to get there!?
