And I just overheard a conversation in the office in the which in which a couple of coworkers were arguing about the 'dirty side' of a storm.

One used the term dirty side and the other said 'It's just water. It's not dirt or dust.' They continued to go back and forth on whether the dirty side of a storm actually brought dirt.

you should go tell them that it's actually related to radiation levels like "dirty bomb" and that the high wind sheer combined with the rain creates a a higher level of NORM (naturally occurring radioactive material) on the east side of the storm. try to convince them and then walk away

The projections that are out on the local stations right now are allegedly 1/3 of the reality of the situation in an effort to curb widespread panic. He also told me that FEMA and the National Guard are already in NOLA in case there is a repeat of 2005, or something similar.

Harvey is supposed to arrive in Houston sometime late afternoon/evening on Friday. If this information looks to remain accurate over the next 36 hours, you might want to consider making arrangements to work from home on Friday.

Hah, saw a comment on a youtube video last night along those lines about how there is an organized effort by local news not to hype this incoming disaster.

Maybe he just means the rain from Harvey? I don't think he means the eye itself.

No comment on the above, but I ran into Steve Radack at Costco (I-10W) as we were all fleeing Hurricane Rita(!)
at 5 mph on I-10, the day before the non-event. I was in line to buy a membership, so I could pump gas...and continue "fleeing". Radack was one aisle over, with at least 15-20 fifths, 4-5 cases/beer, and beaucoup ice.

That must have been a hell of a County Command Center! Guess he was provision-master.

Think is, he did the right thing, and I didn't. (11 more hours to ****ing Bellville!)

43" is the record for a rain event. Alvin, Tx. Some tropical storm/hurrincane the 70's, I think?

Didn't watch the video but Travis Herzog is live on Facebook with a graphic behind him showing Harvey intensifying to a Cat 3 before making landfall as a 2. Hadn't seen that anywhere.

Part of 10AM updated info from NHC. Now projecting a landfall around Indianola and then stall. A Cat 3 there will devastate the Matagorda area and Port A area communities . A stall is also now precast then drift towards upper coast. Someone gonna get REAL wet.

It's still gonna stall, there's nothing to steer it away

So is landfall expected to be Friday or Saturday? Any credible estimate on the rain/wind/surge/etc along the coast tomorrow afternoon/evening? I'm still being told the Alice deal is on because it won't be that bad tomorrow afternoon....
