Need to drive from Mississippi back to Houston today (Sienna Plantation area).... Is this not a good idea? Will we have any major road closures preventing us from making it?

We've been high and dry in Oak Forest so far. Very thankful for that. We're in newer construction, so a bit higher.

Rain just picked up again.

Lots of others here in OF haven't been so fortunate.

Not in town, but neighbor says our place at Althea and Oak Forest is good. Yard flooding hasn't been as bad as Memorial day.

yeah, if you're built up at that intersection in one of the newer homes, you're likely good.

I'm at Hillcroft/Cheena, which is 5 blocks South of your grandparents and 10 blocks South of Brays Bayou. We have street flooding and water covering the sidewalks, but nothing in the house at this time. We've contacted a few people that are closer to the bayou and most of them have at least a couple inches of water in their house. Someone who was posting on this thread last night lived on Hillcroft/Rutherglenn, but I haven't seen anything from him recently.

Here. We started taking on water around 5:45am. I'd guess about half an inch to an inch. When the rain died a bit and it got lighter out, I got my wife and 4-year old down to the street to a neighbor's house, that has an upstairs and no water inside as of then. I'll head down there soon. It's not worst-case scenario since we are all safe, but it's pretty bad.

http://www.sjra.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/08-27-2017-Press-Release-Lake-Conroe-Exceeds-Full-Level.pdf

Quote:

Lake Conroe Exceeds Full Level; SJRA Beginning Controlled Releases

With approximately six inches of rainfall across the watershed over the past 24 hours, the Lake Conroe water level has risen over seven inches and exceeded normal pool elevation. SJRA operations personnel at the Lake Conroe dam are now beginning controlled releases to slowly pass a portion of the inflows coming into the lake.

Fortunately, Lake Conroe was over six inches low when the event started and was able to absorb a significant amount of rainfall without any release. Releases from the lake will begin gradually, and the lake will continue to be allowed to slowly rise, which means the operation of the dam will buffer the amount of flow that would otherwise enter the river.

The operational guidelines for Lake Conroe take many factors into consideration and are designed to protect the dam itself and to ensure that the peak rate of flow released from the dam is LOWER than the peak flow coming into the lake. By allowing Lake Conroe's level to rise during the event, the peak flow going down the river is reduced. So even though Lake Conroe was not designed for flood control, the Lake Conroe dam has significantly REDUCED downstream flooding for every major storm in the watershed since it was constructed in 1973.

At this time, it is impossible to predict how far or how fast the lake will rise. There is still a lot of rain in the forecast, but how quickly the rain falls has a tremendous impact on lake level rise. As a precaution, residents around Lake Conroe are encouraged to trailer or secure any boats or other watercraft. Anyone interested in monitoring Lake Conroe levels, releases, rainfall totals, or stream flows can visit www.sjra.net and click on the link for "Lake and River Conditions."

This link can be found near the top right corner of the home page where current lake conditions are listed. We will also post press releases and other updates on our home page.

How is it now this morning? My parents live on Sapphire Circle just a few houses north of the boat ramp. They were up all last night, creek got within 4 feet of their foundation but has since receded. Apparently there was a significant drop at some point, so I was wondering if water started going over the dam, not just the spillway.

Just Called my dad, he said based on what he can see of a picnic table closer to their house, it's dropped about a half a foot. Previous two storms, it completely receded to top of bulkhead in 24 hours, so luckily it goes down quickly. As long as they get a small break now and again maybe they'll be alright.

Daughter trying to evacuate from Tomball via Grand Parkway and 59 down to Fall Creek. Anybody know of issues on Grand Parkway or on 59 from Grand Parkway to Beltway 8?

Why would she head south? If she's in Tomball going north seems safer, right? I did see highway 6 flooding so even getting to CS might be rough. I definitely wouldn't go south. I've seen images of BW8 flooded at places. 99N to 59N to further north east Texas maybe?
