What's with the bottled water? If I need water, I just turn on the faucet and fill up a glass.

You can drink your pee if you're really thirsty anyway.

Seriously though, I'm not overly concerned about that being in a mud where I personally know the operator. I would be much more concerned if I were on CoH water.

Well, ya know, if that MUD happens to lose electricity, you gots no water no matter who the operator is.

Does it have a generator backup?

State law says that all water utilities in Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties have an emergency power generator in some form or another. My experience is they are all permanently installed onsite. That law was one of the results of Ike. Of course, generators have been known to fail....

My wife picked up a couple of cases of water at Spec's this afternoon, along with more important beverages such as wine, vodka and Jack Daniel's.

When is the heavy stuff supposed to hit? We e got a FF draft at my buddy's ranch in Bellville on Saturday evening. Was thinking of heading that way Saturday around lunch time & then assessing how Houston looks on Sunday & either head back in or head to my folks place in Wimberley.

It sounds like Houston is supposed to be okay through Saturday unless the eye moves closer to matagorda. The bigger threat is 6-8 inches of rain daily, over a 3-4 day period. If the storm stalls and then heads towards SE Texas and LA like some of the models are projecting, we could be in for a long week.

According to the link above 1 in 4, depending on if you think storming for days is not significant

5-10" of rain is pretty bad. You might not have power for several hours

5-10 inches over a couple days (5-10 in hours is something else) is not that bad. In fact just glancing at the official precip chart at IAH it looks like it just happened with little fuss earlier this month.

They basically said that Saturday will have a manageable amount of rain (which is widely known by now), and that they were uncertain as to what will happen after that. Their level of concern is minimal, because they're not willing to forecast beyond 48 hours.

Right, so as of now, it looks like somewhat of a non-event for Houston. Heavy rain. It it comes inland and camps over houston, there will be flooding. That's far from a certainty and hardly evacuation worthy.

I mean the vast majority of forecast models that predict rainfall accumulation are predicting 20+ inches of rain from Sun - Tues and have done so consistently for the past 48 hours. Other than the extremely slight chance the storm drifts south, the system is going to eventually have to track in a NE direction. The only way, at this point, it doesn't dump a **** ton of rain over Houston is if it manages to track back far enough east over the GOM before it heads NE. Either way, its not really a concern to me if you choose to disregard a weather event that has a fair amount of forecast agreement or not, but evacuations are entirely situation-dependent. I live within both the 100 and 500 year flood plains, and I don't feel like spending a 72 hour period trapped at my place with (potentially) intermittent power.

Memorial and Allen parkway off Waugh were like 30 foot underwater after those tax days floods. Think it was about 10 inches in 8 hours. If something like that happens again, plus another day or 2 or 3, this area will be absolutely ****ed
