Think about how many people are just going to walk away from these homes.
seriously, what do you do? Renovate and basically gut the house? Tear down and Rebuild?
What's going to happen to all these neighborhoods with unusable homes?
Not to make a mockery of it, but many of those houses might still be original, which is what probably 30-40 years old? Outside of the financial aspect of it, it's an opportunity to remodel them, since you are kind of forced to.
My buddys parents live just a mile west upstream of that creek (strack rd). Their house first flooded back in the 80s, but the bottom floor was a makeshift finished garage and work area for his dad, so they've just left it unfinished all these years, and the floods have come and gone, while their main living area is all upstairs and stays dry. They are on about an acre, and it's 5' deep right now. They just dry it out and move on hah.
