Actually, the A&M baseball team now has somewhere to practice when the weather is bad. It's called the McFerrin Athletic Center. That thing wasn't built just for football. And, it has grassy turf, too, so we'll be able to get some practice on it and won't be so intimidated by the playing surface in Austin.
Also, the reasons stated for not getting grass are pretty lame. The weather? I don't know of anyone that practices in the rain, and with the new drainage system at Olsen, the Ags are back on the field in no time. The wear and tear? There used to be a total of 15 games in the state tournament, but now half of those have moved to Round Rock. And camps? What exactly do they do at a tu baseball camp?
And while the turf creates a slight homefield advantage, it's not as great as you think, and definately won't be with field turf. Furthermore, Augie wanted grass the last time they replaced the astroturf, so it's not like the turf is loved by the players and coaches.
Field turf is cost effective in the long run, but at tu, I doubt saving money was the main reason for sticking with artificial.
