I don't want to hear wait for the revenues to come up to spend money arguement. If there is one thing Dallas has shown it is that it will support a winner and ignore a loser.

See the Mavs, Stars, and yes I think we can all remember Cowboys games being blacked out. If you win, Dallas fans will show up. This isn't Florida we are talking about.

Market size does matter. The fact that Minnesota and Oakland win doesn't make that the best way to win. If it was the Red Sox and Yankees wouldn't spend so much money.

Hey, I'm just laying out the facts.

And for the record, the Yankees haven't won a World Series since 2000, and haven't even appeared in one since 2003.

I would argue that throwing ridiculous gobs of money to every free agent that comes along is NOT the best way to win a World Series. Building a team through smart trades, smart free agent signings, and a strong farm system has proven over time to be more consistent.

Smart free agent signings = acquiring good players = SPENDING MONEY!!!

That doesn't mean throwing 65 mil to Chan Ho Park or 2.5-3 mil a season to Todd Van Poppel and Jay Powell. But signing good free agents means spending money, and Tom Hick has acted like he's been afraid of getting burned the last 5 years (with the exception of Millwood).

To your point...

Where would we have been this season, if we had resigned Kenny Rogers, and kept CYoung:

Kenny Rogers: 15-6 3.86 ERA / 1.24 WHIP = $8M
Millwood: 14-10 4.49 ERA / 1.30 WHIP = $7.8M
Padilla: 13-9 4.44 ERA / 1.34 WHIP = $4.4M
CYoung: 10-5 3.77 ERA / 1.19WHIP = $500K

versus Eaton: $4.6M

Granted, we'd have not gotten Otsuka...
