With the failing of state funded aid to the florida marlis what does everyone think the chances are of the marlins moving to san antonio? If they do their stadium will be built 5 minutes from my in-law's house

slim to none

MLB probably won't want 3 teams in Texas (even though California has 4 teams)....also have to deal with moving the Missions as MLB probably won't allow a minor league club in the same city as a major league club

ture but how will the franchise survive with an average attendance of barely 5000

They'll be moving somewhere and I wouldn't count out San Antonio.

They were in town not too long ago looking at the sites for the stadium in SA. I think it might happen!

San Antonio has very loyal fans and the city continues to grow! Won't be long before the NFL is there, just have to get McNair and Jones to allow it. It would be great for the state to have those rivalries build like in basketball.

I heard last week that San Antonio city officials are no longer pursuing this....... can anyone confirm?

can't confirm that they are no longer interested. SA officials gave the Marlins an official deadline. thats all ive heard so far.

If cities like Pitt, Cincy, and Cleveland with < 500,000 people can have a team, I don't see why SA couldn't support one.

And BTW, Cali has 5 teams (SD, LAD, LAA, OAK, SF)

i don't care one way or another, but for those of you in san antonio, are you ready to take on a $500MM project?

I thought SA gave them a deadline of like last week to decide whether to pursue.

If they do move to SA, what part of town would the new stadium be located?

Northeast side, somewhere near I-35 & Loop 1610, I believe.

They would put the stadium close to I-35 on the north side so that they can appeal to the corridor up to Austin.

I hate the idea that San Antonio somehow needs another major pro team to get a "sports town" label. Some folks in the media and local gov't have such a chip on their shoulder about this.

As I've written before, I think a baseball team could be highly successful if appealing to not just San Antone, but also the Austin-San Marcos-New Braunfels areas too, and the stadium on the north side of town will do just that.

The fate of a AA baseball team will not be a factor in the decision I can assure you.

With San Antonio bringing in so many tourist dollars there is no reason to think they could not finance a stadium relatively easily. With San Antonio and Austin nearby, the northeast area would be a great locale.

Has there been any discussion about having the stadium anywhere downtown? That seems like the trend with new baseball stadiums lately; to build near the most recognizable part of the city (i.e. you can see the archway from the new Busch, the 3 rivers from the Pirates new park)

Would they try and incorporate the Riverwalk into the stadium in some way? I almost envision something to the effect of "Brewster's Millions" where they had a railroad track built in the middle of center field.

The river will run right behind the outfield wall like a moat!

That would certainly be the smart thing to do!

The word on the Ticket 760 last week(?) was that the Marlins were in town and the REALLY liked the Texas Quarry site over north of 1604. That's still fairly close to I-35. They loved the site and they loved the price.

However, this isn't a deal that's going to get done any time soon. Yes, Judge Wolff gave a deadline, but don't be fooled. This deal would be made in a year or so, and the prices will undoubted be differenct then, but they'll still basically get the same deal.

Wolff led a bunch of marlis big wigs on a tour around town last week and they chose a site for the stadium

Longhorn querry was chosen its off of IH035 and Wurzbach Pkwy and i think the stadium would obviously feed off of the querry theme and there is plenty of room for comercial development out there

'aint gonna' happen, you are a big old bargaining chip kinda' like Beltran used Houston for to get a deal with the Mets.....and then had to sit at home and watch the Astros in the World Series.

Sorry, Longhorn Quarry not Texas Quarry.

If the Marlins don't relocate to SA, what is the next most viable city? In all honesty, baseball needs to contract. Get rid of the Marlins and the D-Rays!?

D-Rays and Royals...KC hasn't been the same since George Brett was playing for them.

Kansas City is a good baseball town. Tampa and Miami suck!

Vegas, probably. But locating a team there would be the ultimate firestorm, since baseball has a worse history with gambling (Pete Rose & the Black Sox) than any other professional sport.

I don't know how accurate this is, but I heard the other day that David Glass (Royals' owner) is fed up with losing and incompetence and is about to fire Allard Baird and open up his checkbook to put together a ballclub with major league, and not Double A, talent.
