The very definition of "letdown" in sports. BU is on a 7-game winning streak that included 3 big wins on the road at Vandy, a huge come from behind, 10-inning win over TCU and a 3 game sweep of rival Texas. To say that Baylor was due for a disaster of a game is an understatement.

As an aside: Never refer to that school in San Marcos as "TSU". There already is a TSU, and applying that moniker to this school is just too confusing. Call them Texas State, or, if you want to piss them off, SWT.

I should know that. I am the official scorekeeper for Texas State football, volleyball and men's and women's basketball. I believe Texas State has an agreement with both Texas Southern and Tarleton State NOT to be called TSU. Everything on campus is listed as TEXAS STATE or simply an interlocking T/S logo.

As long as we sweep Texas and end up in first place in the conference (as baylor is currently) after having done so, then getting beat by a buttload of runs on a Tuesday nite is acceptible.

I think the cat killing thing was more than 3 years ago. Plus, let's not forget that Aggie football legend Shane Lechler was involved in a very similar incident while in high school at East Bernard.

I stand by my statement that as long as you sweep the #1 team in the nation, and lead your conference after doing so, then yeah, it's ok if you get beat bad on a Tuesday night game.

Who cares? You just swept the #1 team on the planet. And you are still in first place in the conference.

When was the last time we could say that about our team?

First of all, Steve Smith ain't leaving his alma mater.

Secondly, the guy TX St threw tonight was 3-0 w/ a 0.86 era. It is still disappointing to lose midweek games, despite the fact that most of those teams throw their aces against the BU's, UT's, and aTm's of the world. That being said, our 10-1 record against the Top 25 is tops in the nation. Can't complain about that.

Most of us agree with you. The others are the same ones who ***** and moan when we lose a midweek game for the same reasons.

With tu out of the way and BU having swept, I think Baylor has to be considered the team to beat in the conference this year, at least by a small margin at this point. Regardless, it looks like it'll be another tight race in the league.

We just played terrible tonite it happens to the best of us but that is just baseball. I hope though that it will put us back in gear for this weekend when we play OSU.

It might say something about the depth of this Baylor team. The young guys especially pitchers usually play and have to do well in mid-week games. This will hurt their ranking for post season.
Only Rice plays their studs all the time.

I agree w/ your statement completely that a weekend sweep is way more important than a Tuesday night game. On the other hand, the Tuesday night games were the thing that hurt Baylor a lot last season. But I just think it's time to put the cat thing away.

Depth is a real problem with BU baseball now. Ever since Baylor went to a flat-rate tuition set up, recruiting appears to have been hurt.

Partial scholarships don't go as far as they used to.

B/CS Bear: Just more of the Sloan legacy. Baylor is well to be rid of that man.

Now, I don't have any inside knowlege on this, but given the way Smith has set up this team in the past, I've always sort of assumed that he threw a little bit larger scholarship (percentage wise) at his stars that a state school would, in order to offset the tuition difference, and then relied more on role players to fill out the team. Any idea whether I'm right about that, or am I way off base?
