Has he just fallen off the face of the earth?Granted, he did get a little roughed-up against ND, but has not pitched that poorly.

We'll see him later in the season, guaranteed. He always starts slow but finishes strong.

He has not pitched becuase he has some discomfort in his elbow. Nothing serious, but they want to be careful.

tendonitis in the elbow sucks, speaking from experience

Sorry to hear that! Hopefully he can get back and be effective. I was wondering why he didn't see the mound against Tech.

I hope our whole staff gets some elbow discomfort if it means 3up-and-3down

He was outstanding tonight in his one inning.

i think he should be our closer once chambless inevitably becomes a weekend starter. his stuff resembles that of a reliever much more than a starter anyway

Zag,

He usually is outstanding for an inning or two, then has problems getting banged around in innings 3, 4 or 5.

I hope it is just elbow problems. If he'll pitch like he did toward the end of 03, we'll have an incredibly deep staff with lots of options should any of the starters run into problems quickly.

It will be interesting to see how MJ pitches him from here out. Closing could be his forte.

is it possible that ray becomes the new closer and chambless takes over as a sunday starter?

that would be a nice fit.

I doubt it. I think Chambless is pretty much being slotted for a closer. We've got other good options for starters (Marlatt, Corgan, Turner, and now Creps). That is not an area where we need help. We need more reliable relief pitching, particularly in the middle innings. Ray has filled that role before, and I say we let him do it again, with Chambless as (hopefully) a short relief closer.

I'd rather have Chambless pitching 6 or 7 innings than 3 or 4 in relief for a weekend. Obviously we would need Whelan and Ray to step up. Can you imagine how good we'd be if those 2 pitched to their potential as relievers and we could move Chambless in to start?

ideally Whelan and Ray could step up....even more ideally Ray could be our Saturday or Sunday starter....Unfortunately my ideal world isn't necessarily what happens on the field....I'm with twk on Chambless
