"So in a couple of years if Billy Gillispie isn't regularly getting the Ags to the elite eight you'll be asking for his head also?"

This in response to criticism of where our baseball program is at. You guys really think making it to Omaha is equal to being in the Final 8 in basketall? What a joke?

There are over a hundred potential basketball teams to make the Elite 8 every year. Ask Bucknell. Ask West Virginia.

You know how many baseball teams have a REAL shot at Omaha every year? Maybe 40, tops. And A&M has the opportunity to be one of those 40 every year. And all but a couple of them, we aren't.

I don't know about any thread being locked, but I do know that people don't understand the concentration of baseball talent in the USA, the number of colleges who put any kind of resource at all into this sport due to Title IX (Colorado and Iowa St. for 2), etc. If you don't know the difference between baseball and basketall in college, there is no chance of intelligent discourse.

And you're point SOA97? I think you are a little too subtle for my feeble brain.

Rice and tu haven’t won two of the last three national titles in basketball.

Rice and tu in Omaha: They’ve seen it on the tv and they want it pretty fast.”

Wrong. There are probably a hundred teams that have a realistic shot at getting to the dance and winning a game (the round of 32), and there are probably also around 60 teams that have a realistic shot at 2 wins and getting to the sweet 16 and the 2nd weekend, but the Elite 8 is a pretty small group of the top 40 schools (sort of like the 40 you mention having a shot at Omaha). Sure, there is the occasional double digit seed that gets 3 wins (like 12 seed Gonzaga did in 99), but the CWS also has the occasional U-La-La.

That said, our baseball and basketball programs come from historically different places and expectations, and while we aren't at the point to expect the sweet 16 most years in basketball, we are a program that should expect to be getting to the supers pretty often (sweet 16), and making the CWS (elite 8) every few years.

I can't say much more than saying that the Big 12 is only the Remaining 10 in baseball. Why is that? How many Colorado's and Iowa St.'s are out there in baseball? Dozens and dozens.

It ain't EVEN close to comparable, top 8 in one to top 8 in the other.

Short memory.

I'll bet you weren't thinking that last year when you took down the defending National Champion in the Regionals at their ballpark.

Or when you put up 5 runs in the first inning of Game 1 against LSU in the Super Regionals, or maybe in the same game, after we came back to take the lead 6-5, to put up two runs in the top of the sixth to go up 7-6.

How about Game 2, when Zach Jackson pitched eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. Until the ninth inning, we had only five hitters reach base.

Come on.

Since the basketball tournament is single elimination it is more likely that their will be Cinderellas but I can remember a few in Omaha over the years.

Kansas, Creighton, Louisianna-Lafayette and Southwest Missouri State.

They were not Cinderellas but who would have thought a few years ago that Rice, Tulane, or Nebraska would have made the trip.

Name the 3 states which probably produce the most MLB talent year in and year out.

I'll take California, Texas, and Florida.

As one of the flagship schools of one of the 3 states that produces more baseball talent than other state, we should be appearing in the CWS ever 3-4 years in my opinion.

Can anyone name the states that have the most collegiate programs? I have no idea but I'd imagine that Texas has to be at the top of that list sharing the high school talent. Only 9 kids get to play at a time so it seems logical that lots go to less marquee schools for immediate playing time.

Also, there are too many Texas products than never even step foot on a campus as well as many Texas kids who go play JUCO ball so they can be eligible earlier than if they went to a major college program.

I was thinking of my expectations earlier. I was planning to start a thread on this, but I will put it here instead. I think that we should be good enough to possibly host a super regional every year.

Let me further explain: By being good enough to possibly host a super regional that means that you will definately host a regional every year. The home field advantage should be enough to win you that regional unless some freak occurance happens. After winning the regional the teams record should speak for itself enough that they would be able to host the Super Regionals and bypassing having to go to Rice or Austin (or somewhere else that is far far away) for a Super.
Again because of the home-field advantage you should expect to win more often than not in the Super's baring a freak occurance or a bad matchup draw.
Going to the super regionals like this you should expect to go to Omaha at least every 3-4 years (as previously mentioned) and dammit win a game or two in the thing ever so often.

But thats probably too much to ask for a Top 5 perrinial crowd in a state crowded with talent where there is a history of baseball and steep competition from your hated Rival and the nerd school down the road.

We should have the same expectations from our baseball program as tu? I just don't understand that. It's not "tradition".

We need him to keep great expectations in check before we get too good?
