Here's what we've got after one weekend of Big XII play. Next weekend we'll have all 10 teams playing a conference set, so it's about to get really interesting.

1. Baylor ... 3-0 ... (1.000) ... 15-7 ... (.682)

T2. tech ... 2-1 ... (.667) ... 17-6 ... (.739)

T2. Oklahoma State ... 2-1 ... (.667) ... 17-7 (.708)

T4. Texas A&M ... 1-2 ... (.333) ... 17-7 ... (.708)

T4. Kansas State ... 1-2. (.333) ... 13-7 ... (.650)

T6. Nebraska ... 0-0 ... (no record) ... 18-2 ... (.900)

T6. Missouri ... 0-0 ... (no record) ... 17-4 ... (.810)

T6. Kansas ... 0-0 ... (no record) ... 20-8 ... (.714)

T6. Oklahoma ... 0-0 ... (no record) ... 12-8 ... (.600)

10. Texas ... 0-3 ... (.000) ... 21-4 ... (.840)

Next weekend:

Baylor at Oklahoma State
tech at Texas
Texas A&M at Oklahoma
Missouri at Kansas State
Nebraska at Kansas

Looks like Baylor and OSU will be battling for first place if tu can rebound against Tek this weekend. Baylor has nice run going. We’ll see how they do in San Marcos and Stillwater this week. After that the Bears have 8 consecutive home games including series with OU and KSU.

that NU@KU series could be a good one.

Baylor is playing great ball right now and definitely has the advantage after their sweep of t.u. but I've seen Baylor teams squander good conference starts in the past.

As for Okie State, except for the fact that Frank Anderson is their head coach, they haven't shown me anything that has me believe that they'll be in running when all is said and done. They needed to sweep the mediocre at best KSU squad at home not just win the series.

Yeah, that’s true sixiron. If Nebraska or any of the late starters sweep they will be at least tied for first percentage wise no matter what Baylor does. I don’t like the staggered start to conference play but I guess it helps the northern teams out somewhat with their weather situation.

We had staggered starts in the SWC too.

Ags should be able to pickup that game on Tech next weekend. Would not be surprised by a longhorn sweep.

Why do we have a staggered start for conference play when we have an even number of teams?

Kansas is bad. They've recorded 20 wins over these teams:

6 vs. Hawaii-Hilo
4 vs. South Dakota State
2 vs. Northern Colorado
1 vs. Austin Peay
3 vs. North Dakota State
1 vs. Baker College
3 vs. Western Illinois

The 8 losses have come to:

3 vs. Stanford
1 vs. Northern Colorado (are you kidding me?)
1 vs. Southwest Missouri State
1 vs. Austin Peay
2 vs. Mississippi State

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in KU's 20-8 record at this point. Granted, Nebraska has beaten up on a bunch of patsies as well, but NU does own 2 wins over Rice.

Finals is the main reason, some schools are on different schedules and to fit everything in they have to stagger the start.

Oklahoma State's 17-7 is equally misleading.

17 wins:

3 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff
1 vs. Houston
3 vs. Binghampton
1 vs. BYU
3 vs. Louisiana Tech
3 vs. Wisconsin-Milwaukee
1 vs. Western Illinois
2 vs. Kansas State

7 losses:

1 vs. Rice
1 vs. Tennessee
1 vs. Dallas Baptist
1 vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
1 vs. BYU
1 vs. Arkansas
1 vs. Kansas State

Conclusion: Every good team oSu has played has beaten them.

Luke,

Thanks for the KU results. I expect NU to win the series...but having it @KU might make a difference. we'll see...

I agree that it should be more competitive than in the past, but I still see NU winning at least 2 games in the series.

Not really predictions, just thoughts about what may likely happen next weekend. It's interesting because of what it might mean for standings at this time next week:

Baylor 2-1 over Okie State
Texas 3-0 over tech
A&M 2-1 over Okie
Not interested in the other 2 yet.

The standings would then be:

Baylor ... 5-1
A&M ..... 3-3
Texas ... 3-3
Okie St .. 3-3
tech ..... 2-4

I just think it is interesting how bunched up things could become very quickly. In fact, if Okie St. could win their series against Baylor, something I think is fairly likely, things would be even tighter. All in all, as long as we take care of business in Norman next weekend, we should be just fine after the first couple weeks of conference.

t.u. will NOT sweep tech.

tu will be playing at home and will be angry after getting swept. I think they sweep, but if they don't, I'm going to be VERY encouraged, especially if they were to falter and lose a couple of those games.

A&M over Oklahoma 3-0, 2 very close games...we're gonna be frustrated and want it, I think, I hope.

But I'm really interested to see Tech vs tu as well... I think 2-1 tu, but with one really close game.

But we'll see. With my luck, we'll go 0-3 and tu will sweep.

I get a kick out of people who say that "team x will be angry after losing...." The implication is that had they not lost previously, they would be less motivated to win the next game / series.

If you are a true competitor, your last outing has no bearing on how you mentally prepare for the next. Granted, some teams do underestimate an opponent, but that is not a function of losing previously.

I find it hard to believe that Texas now wants to win this weekend's games more than if they hadn't been swept by Baylor. In either case, I am sure they are 100% in favor of winning all three games as opposed to being 90% in favor had they swept Baylor instead.

For the most part, techie, I agree with you, but I wouldn't want to face an Augie coached team after a sweep. Especially at that gravel pit.

I kind of have to agree with the Tech guy on this. I'm sure the players and Augie are pissed as hell that they got swept by Baylor. But Augie teaches his players that every day is a new day. It doesn't matter that Texas just got swept. It doesn't even matter that they've already won over 20 games, including a sweep of Stanford and 2 of 3 from Arizona. All that matters is who they are playing at 6:15 today.

He also teaches them that pressure is a choice. Nobody can make you feel pressure without your permission. You don't try to win games because the media says you need to. You try to win them because they are on your schedule.

Playing out of anger and fear are dangerous things, and I seriously doubt that Augie encourages his players to have that frame of mind when they step on the field.
