i know were not coaches and all but after the first part of the season from what you have seen what do you think? Here are my thoughts...

Friday - Meyer...no doubt, may be the best starter in the big 12

Saturday - I would give Ray one more start this weekend and if it doesnt work out, i would insert Marlatt here really quick...

Sunday - Corgan did a great job sunday, so i would continue to keep him here till otherwise...

Tuesday - Cline or Marlatt...

if Ray doesnt show some consistancy i would give him a look at the long relief spot along with Nicolson...

Set up guys would be Chambliss and Rampy

Closer right now i would stick with Whelen but come conference time if he doesnt get settled down i would look for Chambliss to move here...

thoughts?...

Sounds good. I wish I knew a little more about the new guys...Corgan, Turner, Chambless.
I along with others still want to see Ray succeed. We need wins though. Meyer, Ray/Corgan, Turner. For now.
Per Beluicci hour sounds like Jordan might not be around too much. Arg. Hope we'll have him for our post-season stretch.

Jordan will be back for post season. I think the only time he'll miss will be the month or so of spring practice for football. Athletes are only allowed 20 hours of practice a week, so he has to split time between football and baseball.

A few other small notes. 1.) There is no "i" in the spelling of Jordan Chambless. 2.) Parker Dalton is not the same guy as Dalton Parker or even Parker Daulton. 3.) There is only 1 "r" in Hart Hering's last name. Just wanted to throw that out there before confusion ensued.

I'd try the following:

Fri: Meyer (no brainer)
Sat: Turner
Sun: Ray/Corgan/Marlatt

If Ray continues the rollercoaster maybe give him some Tuesday games to try and get into a bit more of a rhythem.

I have yet to actually see Turner throw in person but his numbers certainly haven't indicated a reason to bump him out of the rotation....He has yet to give up more than 2 ER in a start.

I still like Corgan out of the pen simply because of the depth he gives us. I think we're deep enough to get through Tuesdays without needing him to start then.

In the 4 games in which Chambless and Corgan have both appeared they have combined for 17.2 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 19 SO/3 BB. If we can keep that duo coming out of the pen it would sure shorten games for the opponent's offense. Talk about incredible and also not wanting to break up a good thing.

Obviously if one of those two can be a solid-to-great Sunday guy then that is the route I'd go but we're not there yet.

Remember that we still haven't seen Frame yet (he is supposedly coming back soon, isn't he?), and Dan Donaldson & Austin Creps still on the roster but I don't know what is going on with them.

Lot's of tinkering still left to try out.....

Fri- Meyer
Sat- Turner
Sun- Marlatt (Ray)

Tues- Ray (Marlatt)

I'd let Ray pitch a few tuesday games and see how that goes and if he pitches like he's capable of i'd throw him on sunday.

friday:meyer
saturday:turner
sunday:ray

tuesday:cline

long relief: Marlatt and nicholson
set up: corgan, rampy
closer: chambless

tuesday closer: whelan

if whelan can ever get his thing together our staff will really be stacked. not to mention frame coming back.

Kyle Marlatt has earned his spot in the weekend rotation at this juncture. Consider his stats: 2-0 0.59 ERA in 15.1 IP including 1 CG so far (shouldn't Stat Boy give me extra points right now?...I digress).

Meyer is clearly the ace. That leaves Sunday and the fourth spot. We all agree that Ray still needs two more starts before he's relegated to long relief--though he's certainly on that track. He's got good stuff, just needs to develop that killer instinct.

If Corgan continues his pace, I don't see how you can't keep him as the last weekend starter. Clayton Turner and Jon (emphasis on the lack of an "h" in his first name) Michael Cline are right on the doorstep though. They can't be counted out. Chambless is going to miss some good baseball development time while at Spring Football, but he's money as Whelan's set-up man or even replacement if things get ugly down there.

Run down---> Meyer, Marlatt, Corgan, Ray, w/ Cline and Turner ready to bust down the doors. Nicholson manning long relief, and Chambless setting up Whelan. Gig 'em, Ags.

File this under NOT TO BE LEFT OUT: It was good to see Blake Rampy all the way back from injury pitching strong at the Dell.

How can we be putting Marlatt into the Saturday slot already considering he hasn't made a single weekend start on the season.

I certainly can't (and won't) argue that he shouldn't get a shot at a weekend rotation slot but I think the auto-bump to Saturday is a bit much.

His numbers are excellent but the bulk of his innings have been against less than stellar opponents (1 IP v. Tenn, 1.1 IP v. Rice, 1 IP v. Wake Forest, 5 IP v. UT-SA, 7 IP v. Evansville).

I feel like the jury is still out on Mr. Marlatt

All good points to be sure. Rice and Evansville (for us anyway) don't fit the less than stellar profile I don't think. What's more, the Tennessee and UTSA outings were in high-pressure situations (UTSA was his first start of the yr.) where the game hinged on how Marlatt faced some key batters in key situations. So that leaves the Wake game as his only non-testing situation game. This guy's solid.

So is it safe to say that we have 4 guys competeing for the Sunday spot in our rotation that are all better than the saturday guys of most Big12 teams?
Goose06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
not quite aggie from arkansas...

we have 5 sunday quality starters and no one who has shown they are a solid saturday guy in my opinion

How long do you want to ignore this user?
chambless and corgan are going to be the sat and sun starters by big 12 play

byron - what more were you looking for from Corgan on Saturday? I was sitting right behind the plate, and he was SHARP.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
i didnt get to see corgan, but he if we are going to use one of our most effective guys out of the bullpen on saturday, they have to be able to keep that pitch count down and stay in for at least 7 innings. he has been going deep into counts a lot and so he will have to fix that to be a starter
AgRyan04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with bryon about needing to get some innings out of the starters.

I think a lot still depends on what is going on with Frame, Donaldson, & Creps. If we don't have those arms then our bullpen needs more help...if we do have those arms then the bullpen isn't in quite as bad of shape.

donaldson and creps are out of the picture. frame will probably come out of the pen. corgan and chambless will then become starters,...just wait and see.
