Based on my extensive research into our new pitching coach (i.e. reading Richard's article on TexAgs and nothing else) I was surprised to hear he was also a professional golfer. Maybe he'll be able to play a few rounds with some big money alums and get them to open up their checkbooks.

If it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out, and Earley will have to deal with that when the time comes. At this point you can compare him to Weiner because no one knew who MW was when we hired him.

While both were on the Angels and D-Backs in their MLB careers the seasons in which they played for those teams don't match up.

Credentials and quality of assistant baseball coaches aren't vetted even remotely as well as offensive or defensive coordinators in football, so you're less likely to know what to expect when you hire one. Plus, you're not giving nearly enough credit to how much a pitching coach can affect outcomes. Unless your head coach is some kind of mad genius who can recruit nothing but highly polished and mentally tough pitchers, I'm not sure there IS a more important role on a college baseball team. God knows I would've killed to have had the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks with this year's pitching staff.a.froman said:

Honest question, if pitching coaches are that important then why aren't they vetted that well? Also with NIL it's is much easier to get those polished type of pitchers in your program. Hell Yeskie was not very good but has won a title at LSU. Plus as a former player and in the know , can you name a pitching coach that changed the trajectory of a program ?

It would appear that some people can't take or leave your son in laws two cents. Some people just want to get their opinion out there so they have that "I told ya so" moment.

Major league pitching coaching isn't about development at all, it's mostly about helping the manager remember who's fresh and who's healthy, and to disseminate info about the opposing teams hitters with the pitching staff. By the time pitchers make it to the Major leagues, they're going to be annoyed with anyone trying to fiddle with their mechanics or change their approach without them asking for help first. And "annoyed" is best case scenario. Good chance they'll be outright dismissive or hostile.
Long story, short, MLB pitching coach is a completely different job than college pitching coach, so it's pointless to try to use success or failure at one to predict success or failure at the other.

If he's so good he's a HC in 2 years then it won't be here... Because if he's that good then we're winning, and if we're winning we ain't firing Earley.
I suppose there are scenarios where we're winning, POS dies of syphilis and Earley goes to Austin freeing up a spot for him to ascend to HC. But if we're winning because of pitching Earley isn't getting fired.

First of all, Dermdoc would never tell someone to GFY.
There is nothing I want more than for A&M to win. Period. Full stop.
I have never and will never wish for A&M to lose or hope they lose.
If he gets a head coaching job within two years that means he will have been wildly successful here at A&M.
