True.

It's also true that we can't hit well consistently and we consistently pitch not well.

Interesting that we've outscored both OU and Georgia, but lost both series. BTHO - Mizzou!!

Two games out of first after only 6 games is nothing to brag about or get excited about. At this pace, we'll finish 10 games behind the conference champ.

Pitched really well today. That makes your statement false on its face.

One good game doesn't mean you're doing good things consistently.

And we still gave up 5 ER in 7 innings. That's better than we have done against good teams, but it ain't great.

That's not what he said. He said "consistently not good" which is patently false.

Credit to Sims for what he did today. I'm hopeful that today was more of an indication of what we can expect from him going forward, and that what we saw in Norman was a function of 50 mph winds.

I'm concerned about what we saw at the plate this weekend. How do we manage one home run in three games in these conditions? That is alarming.

Sdao and Moss are worries as well. Both have shown flashes, but we need them to put it together, or we'll continue to fall behind to the point where we are playing out the string.

I agree with the hitting concerns. But. They filled the first two days with heavy sinking ball pitchers. It makes sense given their ballpark that they'd want pitchers who induced a crap ton of ground balls. We've hit everyone else not named UCLA pretty well. Really need to learn to adjust though.

Sdao and Moss (and really most of our pitchers) need to pitch smarter in 0-2 and 1-2 counts. Throwing extremely hittable pitches in those counts is a recipe for disaster.

I'll be eagerly waiting to hear what the excuses are for next weekend

not sure why you mean by excuses. We hit fine against OU. Georgia has a bunch of dudes who pitch to ground balls. Those are both true.

Excuses for losing.

I'm tired of them. Weather. Home ball parks. Umpires. Exit velo. Injuries. Shut up and win, this program is better than excuses. At least it should be

Fair enough…I overlooked that. But it is also fair to say we are consistently not good against good teams. We've played 8 games against non-scrubs this year and we're 3-5 with a team ERA above 8.00 in those games. So in the games that matter most, so far, we are consistently not good. Still time to change that, so we'll see if this team can pull it off…or if the poop the bed.

Gosh dang, man...you get your buttons pushed awfully easily, don't you?

No, I don't hate the Aggies. No, I don't hate our coach. No, I'm not wishing for failure.

Yes, I look at our team and I see some serious flaws. Yes, they are correctable. Yes, we still have time to make this into a good or great season.

The big questions is WILL we make it into a good or great season. Based on what we've seen so far, the answer is a resounding, "we don't know." We have a couple of wins against good teams. We have bad losses against good teams. We've handled our business against the cupcakes. We still make too many ridiculous mistakes (throwing to the wrong base...missing the cutoff man...failing to take an extra base when available...playing the shift way too often...giving up base hits against the shift way too often...etc.) Lots of questions remain.

We are in a position to do some really good things over the next 15 days that could put us in a really great position. Gotta win the Tuesdays (HCU, SHSU, and at Texas State)...gotta sweep Mizzou...gotta win the series vs. Vandy. If we go 8-1 or better over the next 9 games, then it will be fair to talk about this season being better than last year. But if we poop the bed over this stretch, then we'll have some serious soul searching to do before heading into the weekend gauntlet of Texas, at LSU, at Florida, Auburn, at Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.

We are 3-5 against the top 10 teams we've played this season, which if I recall correctly were rated 1, 7 and 9. It hasn't been pretty but our opponents weren't just not "scrubs". There are reasons for concern but we can turn it around. Nothing for us fans to do but watch the games. Gig'em.

Looking ahead, we need to take care of business on Tuesdays, and we probably need to go 12-12 to make the postseason, 11-13 to be on the bubble

Probably need 15-11 for a solid host spot (maybe top 8),

Need14-12 to be on the bubble for a host spot. That's gonna be tough

We are not "fine" right now, and there is little room for error from here on out

5-1 over the next 6 SEC games is about as close to a "must" as we can get, this early

You could also add

pitchers giving up too many hits on 0-2 and 1-2 counts.

The cherry on top is when those 0-2 and 1-2 base hits go through holes created by the shift.

It could definitely be worse so certainly a silver lining.

Consistency is important. In our first 2 series we outscored the opponent but went 1-2 in both. That's a problem. You can point to starting pitching, you can point to hitting. Yesterday's mindset at the plate was massively different than Friday and Saturday and got us out in front early. That momentum built throughout the game. hitting is contagious and Im of the opinion that same effect carries over to our pitchers and their effectiveness on the mound. We absolutely hunted first pitch FBs yesterday, Gavin's first AB set the tone for the rest of the game

Ok. Against Mizzou (bad team), let's track it. Mainly because I agree with you and am damn curious. We need to call them on the game thread and then score as help/hurt/DNM. Anything hit to the shift side is a help. Strikeout, outfield catch or hit, HR, all DNM. Issue I think is we need folks at the game probably to call out the shift as it's not always clear on TV unless the announcers say "hit that into the shift" or something.

Thoughts? I know Early is tracking this and I refuse to believe if it wasn't really a net plus that he'd keep doing it.
