Team Statistics Through 3/8

With a decent number of games under our belt and conference play around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to look at how we stack up nationally and in the SEC in a few different statistical categories.


Hitting:
While our strength of schedule has not been particularly impressive to this point, statistically we have a top 10 offense nationally. This is with some of our best hitters missing significant time so far. We have shown an ability to get on base and hit for power. If we get Wesley Jordan and Chris Hacopian back healthy for conference play, it will only make our lineup even more dangerous.

Batting Average: 0.340 (8th nationally, 3rd in the SEC)
On Base Percentage: 0.470 (8th, 2nd)
Slugging Percentage: 0.600 (9th, 4th)
Home Runs Per Game: 1.93 (14th, 4th)

Pitching:
While there are still some questions about our pitching staff, so far the numbers have been really good. Our ability to limit free passes has been very impressive. It remains to be seen how Shane Sdao and Weston Moss compare to the top Friday/Saturday pitching combos in the conference, but Aiden Sims, Juan Vargas, Clayton Freshcorn, Josh Stewart, and Ethan Darden have all done really well in their roles.

Earned Run Average: 3.05 (12th nationally, 5th in the SEC)
WHIP: 1.01 (4th, 2nd)
Strikeout-to-Walk Ratio: 6.14 (1st, 1st)
Walks Allowed Per Nine Innings 1.52 (1st, 1st)

Fielding:
Our fielding has been much improved this season through 15 games. We have only committed 8 errors, and 7 of them have been by true freshman.

Fielding Percentage: 0.984 (23rd nationally, 3rd in the SEC)


Overall, our numbers are on par with some of the top teams in the country and we have shown an ability to win games in a variety of ways. Conference play will no doubt be a much tougher challenge, but we have handled our business so far and should have a lot of confidence heading into the SEC gauntlet. I understand why everyone is being cautious with this team, but we are playing really good baseball right now.

These numbers really tell the story.

And show how broken we were all around last year.

Massive improvements not just hitting but massive improvement with pitching and fielding as well.

SLG% - .457
OPS - .836

Also, our top 6 to take ABs (Grahovac, Duer, Sorrell, Partida, Kiel II, Kelner) all have over a 1000 OPS.

Pitching comparison to last year's first 15 games is nearly identical with one main outlier, free bases.

Good post. Another important stat. After 15 games this year's record is 14-1. Last year it was 9-6.

So far it seems like this year's team is somewhere between the '24 and '25 teams. I'm thinking closer to '24.

you know it's just one game...

but if the final score of the UCLA game had been something like 6-4 instead of 11-1...

the outlook going forward might be a bit rosier.

the Ags start SEC play with top 10 OU followed by top 10 Georgia

Just curious - How/where were you able to get stats from last year that are only through a certain number of games? I was trying to find that info last night but wasn't sure where to find it.

so from a hitting standpoint...the UCLA game was an anomaly

unfortunately from a pitching standpoint...it was not

team ERA took a big jump

Pitching will be a huge problem this year. Particularly concerned about this weekend and Georgia's bats.

Georgia as a team has hit 61 dingers. Next 2 are Vandy and Georgia Tech at 44 and 41. Aggies have 32.

Here are the same statistics updated through 3/15. Although our hitting and fielding numbers dipped slightly, we're still ranked roughly the same as last week. Our pitching numbers fell much more, as we were unable to continue limiting free passes. 21 of the 57 free passes (BB + HBP) issued by our pitching staff so far this season came in our three games against OU. Our team ERA is now 11th in the SEC.

Hitting:
Batting Average: 0.329 (17th nationally, 4th in the SEC)
On Base Percentage: 0.463 (6th, 2nd)
Slugging Percentage: 0.583 (9th, 3rd)
Home Runs Per Game: 1.89 (12th, 3th)

Pitching:
Earned Run Average: 3.81 (33rd nationally, 11th in the SEC)
WHIP: 1.16 (17th, 5th)
Strikeout-to-Walk Ratio: 3.95 (3rd, 3rd)
Walks Allowed Per Nine Innings 2.31 (2nd, 2nd)

Fielding:
Fielding Percentage: 0.982 (22nd nationally, 4th in the SEC)

Wish we could have held more to the 2.3 walks per game this past weekend instead of 5.6. The leadoff walks in game 3 were just killer.

Don't disagree with you at all, but Georgia also has a park built for hitting home runs which they knowingly recruit to.
They're a really good team for sure but that'd be one of the bigger reasons they lead the country by that margin.

It does seem like hitter-friendly fields are becoming the norm. Not good for any pitching staff. Either way, I'm still not hitting the panic button yet. Just one conference series into the season. Also, look around the SEC. Our pitching staff wasn't the only one getting lit up! Everyone has to settle in still. Believe and BTHO everyone!

Good point, but they hit a lot of dingers….as we are finding out.
