Interested to gauge yalls thoughts on moving the rotation around for this weekend since I haven't seen or heard it discussed much.

Friday: Virginia Tech (6-1)
Saturday: #1 UCLA (7-1)
Sunday: Arizona State (7-0)

In my completely amateur opinion, I think we start Moss Friday, and I could argue either way on Sims or Sdao against UCLA. The Bruins have 4 lefties in their most common lineup so far so Sdao could get the nod if we move the pieces around. Sims would have one less day of rest if he started on Saturday, but the stuff has shown he could be an option if we want more swing and miss. I ultimately think you pitch your ace against UCLA, but Sims has allowed 4 hits compared to Sdao's 10 with 5 more K's as well.

I have complete faith in Sdao & Sims against UCLA, I think Moss has to settle his non-changeup offerings more and you'll see his hits allowed drop after the first time through the lineup. UCLA has been whooping teams with the longball, including a sweep of TCU last weekend.

So 2 questions: Do you think Earley & Co. move the rotation around? What would your couch coach instincts do?

Flip flop Moss and Sims, keep Shane on Friday nights.

That's my take at least

Id like if we could have Sdao play against UCLA, he has the most experience

If UCLA has a bunch of left handed batters it is interesting to see if we move some stuff around since it's not a full weekend series.

Whoa, didn't realize we play Number 1 UcLA. They just swept a good TCU squad… gonna be a serious gauge of our mettle

It's an early season non-conference game. I don't think you change up your rotation at this point in the season. We had an incredible run last year having the same three guys start every weekend. I'd like to see that continue this year, and I don't think we should mess with the order unless it's going to be a permanent change (and frankly, there's not enough data to justify that). Let's see if Weston is up to the challenge.

Starting pitchers usually have a pretty set routine for throughout the week, and switching up what day they start can mess that up

I agree, no need to change things unless it becomes a problem. Keeping guys on a consistent schedule is good for the player.

Also, as good as Sims has been to start the season, we still don't know how he will respond to his first bit of adversity. Moss at least has been pretty heavily battle tested against top squads last year.

Wouldn't change a thing. Moss is legit and there's no reason to mess up our starters routine right now.

Agree with keeping it the same. Every win this weekend is valuable.

ASU is undefeated and just destroyed OU in Norman. For all we know they're better than UCLA, as we've found out being preseason #1 doesn't mean much.

Also just want to point out ASU's schedule this week is the most brutal I've ever seen. 5 SEC teams away from home, all of them ranked. Probably helps us that we're the 5th game for them

ASU has scored 84 runs through 8 games and we have scored 88 through 8. Just an interesting stat.

Kind of want to forget about last year....but the incredible run was year before last.

You apparently have forgotten about last year. We had the same three starters start every weekend game all season long. That is just about unheard of these days. Last season was a failure because we didn't score runs. 2024 was a great season, but not because of starting pitching.

Moss's best pitch is a changeup. That plays better against lefties than it does righties

Sims had 100 pitches on Sunday. We should keep him on his normal rest routine

No reason to change the rotation order for a nonconference tournament. I have faith in all three guys. And Moss has the stuff to beat anyone. The key will be to play clean defense.
