A friend of mine was a big time HS/college umpire for many years. Once, we were talking about working the bases and I asked if he wore a cup. "Nope," he said. "I'm still of the age where I can get out of the way." He was talking about BASEballs hit off the bat. A couple of years later something like this happened and he took one! A bit later, he saw me and reminded me of our conversation, told me about the incident and said, "yeah, forget what I said about age. I wear a cup when I WATCH baseball on TV! That was brutal!!"

Army just won, 9-5. Announcer said earlier that Army was saving their top starter for Saturday, so that gives them a pretty decent shot for that game you would think.

South Carolina's weekend schedule threw me off too. They are playing all three service academies for a salute to service. It's cool to see Army pull off the upset.

Mainieri coached at Air Force prior to his years at Notre Dame and LSU. He always tries to schedule at least 1 service academy when he can.

Couldn't find this one for a bit. Then saw it "hiding" on the ACC network.

Production quality of this broadcast feels like small high school level at best.
