LOL at Brauny focusing on exit velocity for outs

Also if I hear "if this was a warm southern wind at Olsen that ball would be out" I'll lose it

Haha yes, that was stated during several of our early losses last year (no pun intended)

It'll be the coldest spot in college station by at least 10 degrees

45 degrees with a chilly north wind making it feel like 36

10 degrees colder than you could ever imagine it will be.

Here is where the teams by number of top 100 recruits that made onto campus for each school. Looks like we are tied with 5 with most of the other SEC teams not above us lol

1. Tennessee (7 players ranked in the top-100)
T-2. Arkansas (5)
T-2. LSU (5)
T-2. Oklahoma State (5)
T-2. Texas (5)
T-3. Alabama (4)
T-3. Mississippi State (4)
T-3. Texas A&M (4)
T-3. Kentucky (4)
T-3. Virginia (4)

Top 100 is great and all, but I'd imagine baseball recruiting is even more fickle and difficult to pin down than football. Farr and Erickson were both top 100 guys while TK was on the outside looking in. We saw how that worked out. Jorian wasn't in the top 300 and it sounds like he may be tough to keep out of the line up with Jace like exit velos when he's right.

MLB puts on an 8 team tournament every year on opening weekend at the spring training stadiums around Phoenix. I've been to some cold and really cold opening weekends in CS. Would we ever consider playing 3 games in temperatures almost guaranteed to be in the 60's and maybe up to 80?

I understand that. Was just looking for some quick information and not sitting down for a complete project. I think as our class that made it to campus was really solid and top end of the SEC. The top 100 list is probably fairly similar to the overall class rankings in the SEC. Hard to compete with teams like LSU, texas, UT (we will see what happens now that Vitello is gone) year in and year out, but that is the job

Honestly would love this. I feel like we should never have opening day in CStat be any earlier than 2/21

I don't know why we never participate in tournaments outside of Texas. Could be the cost, or that we don't want to give up any more home dates, or maybe we just don't get invited.

I remember back in the late '80s and early '90s, we played in tournaments in the old Minneapolis Metrodome, the New Orleans Superdome, at South Alabama, and in Shreveport. I think we even played a tourney in the valley hosted by UT-Pan Am (now called UT-RGV). I get that the landscape of college baseball has changed over the years, but I miss the opportunity to make road trips to these places as well as weekend series at places like Pepperdine.

I live near Wrigleyville where the Cubs train and a quick drive from Scottsdale Stadium (Giants) and Salt River Fields (Diamondbacks). There will be games each day at those and I really enjoy it. Easy parking, cheap tickets and really cool venues. I think a lot of people would enjoy the trip.

I'm hoping San Antonio gets a college tournament put together when they build the Missions new stadium downtown. Probably wishful thinking, but we'll see.

Corpus Christi, Frisco, Sugar Land, and Round Rock all host tourneys in their minor league parks. Heck, even the semi-pro team in Burleson is hosting a tourney this year. If SA doesn't host one, it's just because they don't want to.

I remember when the Ags went and played at the Metrodome. We beat Miss State and Florida State that weekend. It was early in the 1992 season. Always figured there was a Chuck Knoblauch connection to that. Ags had pretty much never ventured up in that territory of the county, Knoblauch was here in 1989, in 1991 he was a rookie with the Minnesota Twins and they win World Series and then in February of 1992 the Ags are playing in a early season tournament in the Metrodome.
In 1995 we went played in the Superdome in New Orleans. We drove over Saturday evening and watched Ags blow a late lead and lost by a run to New Orleans. Then on Sunday blow another late lead and lost to LSU 7-6.

We also took a trip to Hawaii in Johnsons 2nd season in 1986

going back several posts...

hopefully the infatuation with exit velocity is winding down

especially since opponents are allowed to scout a hitter's tendencies (announcers seem to forget this)

as Dusty Baker once said: "I don't care about exit velocity -- I care about exit hits"

You do realize a higher exit velocity directly correlates to more hits.

All things considered, it's a general truth that the harder you hit the ball the better the outcome. But, are you taking a guy with a .250 BA and .800 OPS with 100mph average exit velo or the guy hitting .300 with an .825 OPS and 90mph exit velo?

I know who I'm taking.

Nailed it! The 5 error game against OSU is when I thought the wheels would probably come off last year.

We'll know a lot more by the end of February, but I'm very optimistic.

Or when we loaded the bases with no outs early against Arizona, only to have 3 completely uncompetitive ABs that couldn't even score the guy on 3rd. That was a brutal weekend.

And hopefully Earley year 2 > Earley year 1
