Great job with the updates.
Maya Bland not in the roster and the release only mentioned 4 transfers and 3 freshman. We saw all of them play
Maddie Sauni was a standout today. Did a great job receiving. Has a cannon for an arm. I was happy ULM decided to test her so we could see her arm. Not sure the pop time but I would say the best arm we have seen from a catcher at A&M in quite some time. Haven't seen any stats posted on her homerun but it was out the park quickly. I would guess an exit velocity over 75. Without a doubt she was the top newcomer of the day.
For returning position player I thought KK was great. Not many, if any, challenging plays deep in the hole but several slow rollers from speedy players and she was smooth and accurate throwing every one of them out. She looked like a natural at short. She also hit a bomb to center. Not hit as hard as Maddie's but better launch angle and likely went further. KK looked like she was already in mid season form. Looking forward to a big year from her.
Kelsey and Frankie both looked good at the plate tonight. If I remember correctly only one hit between them from Kelsey but overall good confident looking at bats.
Piper White looked really good at the plate and she can motor. Had a hit in her first AB and smoked a liner in her second. We will see over more games but she may end up like Frankie last fall where the coaches didn't plan to make her a starter but she keeps taking advantage of her chances until she doesn't give them a choice. I liked everything I saw from her tonight.
Edwards looked solid at 2nd and Wark handled 1st just fine. Neither looked great at the plate tonight but honestly neither did Mya. I am not going to worry about Mya because I know how good she is, so I won't worry about those 2 after one night either.
Pitching wise Lessentine looked sharp. Pannel looked like she can be deadly over 1 or 2 innings. I can see her in a closing role and having a lot of success there. I doubt she could start and go through the lineup more than once but she was brought here to close and I can see that. Peters did not look special to me tonight. From my seat I can't see her horizontal movement but I can see her vertical movement. She handled the batters she faced just fine so I don't want to overboard but her vertical movement was not what I saw last year. Could be that Trisha wasn't letting her throw her best pitch as she did to Lefty until she mastered her other pitches. So as long as Peters stays healthy, I will continue to be high on her potential. Grace looked just like Grace from last year. Kate is still the same scrapper she was as a freshman. Not overwhelming stuff but seems to have a very high competitive gene that drives her to find a way out of a jam.
Looking forward Sidney, Sidne and Pannel could take this team a long way If Grace or Kate can take a step between now and conference play I would feel more confident this team can handle a really tough SEC schedule
Biggest question of the night is why Ariel didn't play. I assume it was health related. If she can return to her freshman form and find a position to play on the field I would think she would win a starting job.
Over reaction thought after one fall game: Piper White and Ariel Kowalewskie find their way into the starting lineup by spring. Edwards, Wark and Baldwin compete for the final starting spot. The 2 who don't win a starting job join Allen as bats off the bench. Groce, Lovell and Golden mainly handle the pinch running duties.
I didn't mention Baldwin before my crazy prediction. She has a good swing and can hit the ball with power. I think Maddie looks like she can be special at catcher. With DeeDee's height and power bat I would like to see her compete for the job at first base. No clue how she could play there but better than certain backup role at catcher
