back in the day...the great players from California...

would not get past Arizona or Arizona State

the grand canyon state was as far east as they came -- but no longer

programs can rotate on and off the elite list

Miami is not elite anymore. Just like Fullerton and Rice are no longer elite
Bingo, and somewhat my point earlier. Whatever your definition of Elite, you have to have eras or periods for it to make sense.

40 seasons (modern history)

7 national titles (1 runner up)
19 World Series appearances

That's probably the blueprint for elite in the modern era.

Absolutely the best in that timeframe.

LSU is the most elite IMO.

Multiple national titles and finals appearances, in Omaha more years than not it seems. Hosting regionals almost every year and always ranked in the top 10 throughout the season most years
I completely agree

Yep. They are absolutely right there as the best in terms of support, talent, coaching, and consistency and have been that way for a very long time. You can go back to 1984 and use pretty much any block of time and they would be in there. Very impressive.

We were right where we needed to be. Made the right move at the right time to move into and stay "elite" for a long time. Unfortunately, the guy was a POS. Bad luck for us……or an Aggie curse. We need to be ready to make a Jay Johnson like hire if Earley doesn't take a huge step forward next year.

if UNC wins their super-regional...

the Tar Heels probably go back in the elite category

would be their 9th CWS appearance in the past 19 (non-COVID) seasons

Agreed.

Also on that next tier I'd put Florida State, Florida, and Oregon State

But 0 championships is a huge wart. Can you be truly elite with zero?

...and they're my pick to win it all this year so it could be moot.
