Same. Tv seems like the longest of long shots

I think TV is a long shot, but Kendall is saying he had interest last year, and maybe the timing is better now if we pay him like a basketball coach, and on that alone, we have to try.

Why?
As has already been pointed out on several threads, retaining Earley would be a bigger hit financially bc we would not get NIL for a lame duck coach.

I also saw a guy state. We already have the NIL in place. That cracked me up. I doubt that. But let's say we did. You think the people that already threw that money at NIL want it being used on a lame duck coach.

All you need is one to a handful of people willing to cut the checks - this is a big part of the ADs job. We won't be fishing if we didn't have the funds.

I didn't hear Kendall say that TV had interest last year.

From an article I read:

Vitello would owe Tennessee $4 million if he leaves before June 30, 2025. That number drops by $1 million for each of the following two seasons, then to $800,000 from July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028. It drops again to $400,000 from July 1, 2028 through June 30, 2029.

If A&M poaches TV that will probably be the end of the love affair between the Vols and Aggies on Reddit.

Why is that what you're worried about? We had like a $22M excess last year even with revenue sharing coming up we should be moving on regardless of a specific individual offering to cover it.

Did he mean he has zero doubt O'Connor is interested in A&M specifically or that he was interested in both A&M and State?

There isn't a term limit.
He's not going to be voted out before his term is over.

I do not know if it is a long short or a sure thing as only Tony knows that. If it comes down to money, then I believe Tennessee is fine as we definitely know the cost of winning vs losing and have several deep pocket alums (cough, cough, Peyton) who will happily step up and match any other offers.

I am sure he would have great success at A&M, but my question is if you are happy where you are and things are looking up, why would anyone step into a situation with such drama and unique oddities?

Also, if it comes down to Trev Alberts vs Danny White, I like our position. I do think A&M will land a quality coach. My guess is it is between O'Connor, Vaughn, or the OSU guy.

The only way he moves is if he isn't happy with his situation or future for some reason. The money wont be an issue.

His reference to "lame duck" was in connection with NIL. Meaning there will be little to no confidence that Earley will improve and will be gone after the 2026 season. So the lame duck season is 2026.

O'Conner has missed the tournament 3x in 21 years. I'll happily take that 86% clip, as well as a national title under his belt and 7 trips to Omaha.

O'Connor has a top 5 track record in all of college baseball currently. Hell even that might be underselling what he's done at Virginia. If you can't see people are willing to excuse this past year for him between getting to Omaha 3 out of the last 5 seasons and having won a NC, then I can't help you.

Vaughn was projected to get 14th in SEC entering the season. That's where we finished. He ended up 41-16 with a winning record in the SEC and did it with a lot less talent and worse facilities than us. Their team did more with less.

He beat Vandy, Arkansas, and Florida in Omaha in 2015. Does that count?
