Very weird season like no other we've seen.
Injuries to Grahovac, Sorrell, Stewart, big losses
Other injuries Schott was beat up and prolly should've sat out and got surgery he battled but was a shell of himself.
Pitching kept us in every game but Prager not as good less velocity.
Transfers (Henseler had good year but had some bad errors and AB's at critical times). George not much at all, Bear had good stretch but he can't catch up to inside fb's, Galloway was awful then never saw him again, Kash was oft injured but last nights game summed it up not running on a bunt cost us the game. He found out like others big 12 pitching is not the same as SEC pitching. Royo came on very strong.
Freshmen TK had great year but some bad AB's late in games, Farr tough spot he was put in, but he will be very good before he's done this season was good for both of them.
Moss had great outings and some head scratchers, Jackson was dominant and then could Lose the zone.
Patton been as advertised. Freshcorn got a big arm ton of talent finished strong.

Season grades
Pitching. B+
Defense D
Hitting D
Baserunning F
Coaching C
Intangibles. F didn't make enough routine baseball plays little things not executed will cost you.

Overall a very tough season with a lot of adversity and the team was coming around nicely until we gave Texas the series sweep with little things.
Even with that sweep we still were fine and if we take of business vs Mizzou we are planning for a regional.

Losing to that Mizzou team was inexcusable there is no way to defend it. They were that bad if Earley is let go this is something that gives credence to his termination.

Other big points in the season
First sec game vs Bama top of 9th Jackson dominating in tie game pulled for Wilson, then Wilson for Rudis who gave up 2 bombs it cost us the game. What if Jackson stays in most likely go to 9th tied. Maybe we win it how does our season look then. There's more like that as well.

Just my opinion and I'm fine if coach stays but losing to Mizzou gives the powers it be to fire him.

George was supposed to be a defensive swiss army knife. He was not that. Otherwise I'd say rather accuracte assessment.

Coaching C??

Did he need to finish 16th in the SEC to get a F?

Noted I could give him an D but hey he did lead us to wins at Tenn, Arky, but no team had as many injuries to key players as we did that is not on him.

Noted

A finishing top 4
B finishing top 8
C finishing top 12
He finished 14 and got swept by 16 at home. Inheriting the Preseason number 1 team. Thus he earned a negative curve which makes his actual finish below 16.

The injuries are a good reason why we would've went from hosting to just being a 2 seed, but they aren't a reason why we did so bad.

The team was fundamentally unsound all season. Last night was a perfect encapsulation of it. Dropped fly ball, and 2 crucial base running errors ultimately cost us the game. It happened way too often this season.

intangibles little things are what did us in. I could make my grade an F but there were signs of how good we could be, but also how bad.

And like I said there is no defense for losing to a JV juco team at home that was 0-24 that is squarely on the coaching staff.

This alone makes the Coaching a D at best.

I just put this out there for discussion. All valid points

I doubt we make a change unless the House settlement is approved and Cruz's magic lefuslatuin goes through. That we are inserting riders into contracts to force renegotiations in the event the current NCAA regime collapses essentially financially suggests we smell way more risk than other do.

Trev is here to help manage that risk and he isn't here to add to it with more, unnecessary cost. But he might change baseball coaches…

Same. I pretty much agreed with your other grades. Good post to start the off-season.

I don't think anyone has a real grasp over what things will look like if the House settlement is implemented. Whatever faults Alberts has, he is right in the middle of this and trying to position us for the new landscape. That said, whatever the environment looks like, we are going to need better results from the baseball coaches than what we've seen this year. Earley might end up being the coach of the decade, but that decade is more likely to be the 2030's rather than the 2020's. He just wasn't ready to be a head coach at this level. I have to give Nolan Cain some credit here; he knew that he wasn't ready, and declined to pursue the job. Earley was lacking that self awareness.

Best moment:
- Caden Sorrell HR to win series against LSU and "ideally" set us up for postseason play… for about 5 days at least

Worst moment: the entirety of the Mizzou series and I'll go with the Friday night Bama top of the 9th inning.

Favorite moment:
- 9th inning comeback vs South Carolina. What a day that was

Overall thoughts: we were consistently inconsistent and too many key players regressed/didn't live up to previous years potential. Swept 4 times in SEC play means you likely won't make it or be close to a regional. Outside of 4 great weeks we were a bad baseball team

this season was a bad season. when factoring in expectations it was horrendous

we were clearly unlucky with the devastating injuries we faced all season. but we were equally bad because we played bad baseball

we were a fundamentally bad baseball team. tons of mental and defensive mistakes and no concept of situational hitting.
