Yeah, it hasn't been a great non-conference slate for us, other than our four games in Texas.

We were actually supposed to play VCU and Washington (due to the Jason Kelly connection) in series this year, but their new coaches decided not to come down to the Box, and we had to scramble to find some sub-par last-minute replacements this fall. Presumably, Purdue-Fort Wayne and North Alabama. Jay was very unhappy about that, as he wanted us to have a more challenging schedule.

We used to play Southern Miss every year from the mid-2000s to the early 2010s, but I think at some point Paul Mainieri and Scott Berry had a falling out, and we haven't played them since outside of the NCAA tournament. I wish we'd schedule them again.

But regardless of our poor OOC schedule, I think this LSU team is very, very good. It doesn't have the top-end talent of the 2023 team, but it might be deeper than that team from top-to-bottom. The offense and defense are outstanding. We just need to figure out our best pitching roles for everyone and get Gavin Guidry healthy again. This team has a high floor and a national championship ceiling.

I feel like the committee will give Oregon State a bit of grace, and deservedly so. It's not their fault the rest of the conference just bailed on them. And it was already hard for them to schedule good non-conference games in the Pacific Northwest, even when they were in the Pac-12. I feel like Oregon State can still survive and thrive in the changing landscape of college baseball, but I would never have imagined Rice and Cal State Fullerton would fall off so hard.

RPI is still garbage at this point. Xavier is No. 4 at 8-13, Minn. is No. 17 at 8-10, and N.D. State is No. 22 at 4-14.

TCU takes down southern Miss tonight and Ole Miss drops a game as well. OU and Bama barely held on for their wins with walk-offs. UTSA trying their best to hold on against tu (currently bottom 8; up 7-6).
