I'd get rid of Earley at this point or demote him to hitting coach and letting the pitching coach be the interim hc. This is a total rebuild now.
Kelly won't be any better. I'd let Hutch be interim HC before Kelly. At least Hutch loves this place and will probably be here with the next staff.

Hutch is here until they carry him outta his office

Schloss was skipping multiple meetings and lied to Trev's face when asked if he was considering a change.

I think we did have the outline of a plan but we didn't have an opening to fill. The timing was planned for maximum destruction. We had a short list by that night.

Spot on. There should be zero misunderstanding that the POS was fully vindictive with all his moves, including the night before the last game. POS sent people to select players rooms starting to recruit.

Hiring a big fish isn't necessary. Hire a good coach - period. The resources of this place will give that person plenty to work with. Giving up because we didn't succeed at the Hail Mary to hire vitello is dumb. It's lack of effort in the AD.

Well that was painful.

The guys played their hearts out last year, only to have the coach dump on them.

Then this slump or whatever it is happens. I feel for the team.
But they got the coach they begged for. No reason to feel sorry for them.
I get this argument, but imo, nobody big was coming to A&M to coach. They tried to land a big fish and failed.

And I have no faith in our leadership to hire someone who can actually win and build a program in men's major sports.

We were hosed either way. With Earley we had a chance by retaining so many proven players. His hiring seemed to me to be the quickest way to rebuild.

Time will tell, but it is looking bad.

I think both sides of this is correct. Damn if you do, and damn you if you don't

A good job by the pitching staff to get through 9 at 2 runs.
Yep, and should we lose then there will be people on this board blaming the bull pen for the loss.

Not a single person would blame this loss on the bullpen

Definitely. We should have been able to scratch out at least 2 runs today.
Not directing this at Sea Pony but it is the situation I'm upset about too.

Two defining plays of the game were early.

1st inning - Our first 2 batters of the game got on for LaViolette. After his at bat, we had 2 outs and 1 on base. Result 0 runs scored as we played for a big inning.

3rd inning - Leadoff single by Erickson. Earley calls on Galloway, our 9 hole hitter, to get a sac bunt down. He hasn't gotten one down with 2 strikes and Earley takes the bunt call off and Galloway strikes out and fails at moving the runner into scoring position for Kent and Henseler.

Seems like common knowledge that we have great starting pitching and can't score. An early lead would be huge for this team. I don't think we have an actual approach to situations and Earley should have held Galloway accountable with 2 strikes and kept the bunt on. I want Galloway and the team to know that I expect them to do their job. Earley let Galloway off the hook. If he gets the job done. It is a win. If he doesn't get the bunt down, I know I can't count on him and his playing time is decreased. However, the team knows their coach is going to hold them accountable.

But decrease his playing time for who else to play? Bear isn't any better and so far, hasn't been better behind the plate.

I'd like to give George a shot back there but his bat has been worse than Galloway.

Other than one or two at bats we didn't look lost on swings. Maybe road trip will be good for team.

I think with his ego, Schloss very much wanted to coach in the best baseball conference, the SEC, after his run at TCU was souring. WE, provided that entrance in the league that he wanted. Once tu was gerrymandered into the SEC, it was a matter of time. Their pedigree in baseball, his buddy in charge, he could stay in the SEC. Done deal. He felt our "traditions" were outdated as well, fought against them and desired to shake them up. There was no allegiance to us.

May not be, but I think it had to be a factor.

Fire Longley now. If Early can't find time to coach hitting, let Hutch or Kent's Dad do it.

Blame it on the AD. He ran Schloss off.

As much as I believe Trev made very little to almost no effort to retain Schloss, I believe Schloss came to A&M purely as a placeholder to his next move to tu. Trev could have done less to give him reasons to leave. But, there was nothing he was going to be able to do to keep him short of joining Schloss in his lifestyle.

POS wanted to be with Del Conte more than tu specifically. My question was whether CDC was at tu when POS got here or if that happened after the fact. IIRC, he got here and CDC wasn't at tu yet. POS wanted to elevate to the SEC, so coming here made sense. I doubt this was a ploy to get to tu. He could have just stayed at TCU and done that. Once CDC was at tu though, all bets were off. At least that's the way I understand it. And Trev really did make all efforts to keep POS. Like, he was positioned to make more, again from what I understand, than tu actually paid him if he'd signed his extension.

And let's face it, it speaks to the type of person POS is going to your school's main rival. This really could have (and maybe still did) screw us. When has that ever happened when 2 schools are essentially equal in terms of resources? Where a school took their main rival's HC in a big 3 sport? Not saying it couldn't happen. Not even saying tu's baseball history is equivalent to ours. They have a great history! So normally you'd not have an issue if a coach left most schools to become HC at tu. But, the way it was done, with extremely limited time for us to get another HC and a closing portal window and doing it purposely to bring most of the best A&M players with him really leaving us in a bind? He planned it that way. Which, let's face it, is pretty diabolical considering who he left for (tu) and what that would have done to this program. I'd be willing to guess, even if we had the reincarnation of both Bear and Saban coaching at A&M tu likely wouldn't even put feelers out, or would only marginally make an attempt and part of that would be that tu's pride normally wouldn't allow it in my deduction. I seriously doubt they'd get a coach from A&M nor we would from them without that extenuating circumstance like a best friend being the rival's AD or maybe it being the coach's Alma mader. Outside of that? Very unlikely.

I believe CDC left TCU 1 year prior to Schloss and couldn't just fire Pierce.

Edit: CDC has been at tu since 2017. Their interim AD hired Pierce in 2016.

Agree. He would say some rude things re: our traditions, at least I thought, when he was on Texags Radio. He used words like "weird" and just seemed to think we were strange. Maybe we are. But that's not usually something an acting HC should be saying about his school. He also seemed to want to get rid of almost all Aggie Baseball traditions, particularly the rifleman if I'm not mistaken. He didn't like the music we played before the game and during. He injected the dance team, forced them really, on us. I love the dance team! But to me, baseball isn't really where dance or cheerleading belongs. Honestly, and I get his daughter was TCU dance team, but I thought it was slightly creepy of him plus these girls are literally up in the face of the people sitting in the first row of first deck. It just seemed, odd. He just seemed odd. Hey, I wanted him to stay b/c he won and we were rolling. But it all kinda makes sense given how he left. Honestly, I really see these same things being said about him by sips years from now. And I could see him bailing on tu if CDC ever leaves or their relationship sours.

I disagree. Despite the record. He has to show he can make the right decisions and right the ship. And that starts with actions towards our anemic offense. Whether that's firing our hitting coach, taking over duties and reassigning the hitting coach to something else, I don't care. Something has to change. Almost 20 games into the season now. If it doesn't change soon, I'll be changing my tune.

Schloss had very real family reasons that he needed to leave in Fort Worth. That's why he came. And the moment CDC went to tu, their plan was to figure out how quickly he could get to Austin.

I'm sorry for getting so aggressive earlier; my apologies. But this has no bearing whatsoever on our team. Who cares if POS is doing well at another team. Have we ever brought up Billy Gillespie's record after he bolted for UK, or dove headlong into RC's record as Neb after we canned him? No. Who cares about other teams/coaches' records. No other SEC teams records are discussed on here other than when people bring up POS's current record. Seriously, who's gives a *****

I think LSU or Texas was his desired final destination all along. Just given that those are probably the two best college baseball coaching jobs in America.

If things continue the way they are, I don't know that I would disagree with firing at the end of the season. Doesn't seem to be much hope with how things currently are, hence my point that as the head coach he now has the chance to turn things around. Buzz cuts aren't going to fix this.

I would say our run production is decreasing uniformly by powers of 2. 2 squared, 2 to the first power, but 0 is 2 to the negative infinity. We can't do anything right. If this was the late 60's I would say the team needs to get drunk and go to LaGrange, but Marvin Zindler nixed that.
