with two outs in a 3-0 count we fake a bunt????

It's literally telling the pitcher, "hey I'm taking all the way. Go ahead and groove one in here."

Literally takes all fear out of the pitcher. Both times the bama pitcher just grooved a strike right down the middle. It would be far better to let our kids potentially even swing at that pitch than just fake a bunt. Who the heck is making that call???

I think we've done it in 2 huge 3-0 counts now. These kids will literally never be told to do this in the pros.

The highest expected value of return actions there are 1. Take pitch 2. Swing at a middle middle pitch for extra bases, usually trying to drive to an outfield gap.

The only thing worse than faking a 3-0 bunt would be to actually bunt that, adding risk to popping it up or not beating the throw to first rather than seeing if you get a free base.

I don't mind fake bunting the way Farr did. He squared late. And the pitcher did not groove one, that was clearly ball 4 and blue missed it.

it is almost always called a strike cause the ump hates this bs.

I just disagree, I think showing a pitcher bunt at all in 3-0 just screams free pitch.

I'm afraid our former hitting coach wasn't the main influence on our hitting last year.

It's a JV level tactic

If you're taking go ahead and take but why not get your timing down on the 3-0 instead of forfeiting a pitch.

It's horrible. Coach Earley might need a suggestion box.

Hah. He needs more than that. Maybe we can get AI to tell him what to do... definitely will be a step up (perhaps we can replace him with ChatGPT ... lower costs and better results).

It's also a distraction for the umpire.
