Is it open again? Been a couple years since we took the kids and they had it closed down. Curious if it's back during games?

My wife took my youngest there Saturday and said a few boys were on the railings slamming themselves into the netting that to her looked very flimsy. Not sure how secure those are, but she could seconds the chaos going on basically.

I'm guessing that thing will be gone whenever the stadium renovation occurs.

Yeah. Last season my (then) 10 year old wasn't allowed to go in unsupervised, yet there were at least 50 kids crawling on it while their parents were "near" watching the game.

I hope they keep the lawn seating. Some days that's the only place I want to be.

I have never understood why that area exists. If you need a babysitter so you can go watch a game, then hire one to come to your house.

I had the same mentality when it was built.
But after having kids, and wanting to go to games, it's great.

The lawn design for the right field line is perfect for that area. Especially, in consideration of the sun in your eyes.

I actually think it'd be less chaotic if they expanded it post reno. It's chaos because you get 30 kids trying to use one slide.

Get rid of it. It's a baseball game. If your kid can't watch the game then don't come. Or quit having kids.

This thread is so texags haha

A playground discussion turns into discussions of the chaos there, those for a playground and those against it.

It wreaks of kids today who have to be constantly entertained. Never had that crap when I was going to the astrodome as a kid. It's a baseball game. Those seats would be awesome if they had seats down there

But everyone is different. If we start winning they can put 20 of them around the stadium lol

My son likes the playground and always has me read the dedication plack. Does anyone remember the boy who it is named after? I can't and its bothering me.

Because the family of a very young kid dies way too early kids to have a place play.

And we had a head coach that felt compelled to incorporate the play area into the stadium design to honor the life of Spencer. Fantastic move by Coach Childress.

Should we get rid of Blue Bell as well?

It's basically just a playground to entertain crotchity old people who's wife is tired of baby sitting them, right?

There was an arcade at the Astrodome in the early 1990s.

Before that, Hofheinz had a bowling alley, pool table, shooting gallery, etc., there too.

Then you get into the massive scoreboard, people dressed up as "Earthmen and Spacettes", and one of the earliest stadiums to have luxury suites.

Bob Hope famously quipped that the Houston Astrodome was so comprehensive that if it only added a maternity ward and a cemetery, you would never need to leave.

The Astrodome is probably the worst example of you could pick of a stadium not having "crap" to entertain people outside of baseball.

If you don't like it, don't use it- simple. If you don't like kids, don't have any. But don't judge others who want to let their kids and grandkids have a great time at the ballpark while watching the game, simple.

I don't get why this is so hard. We don't use it because I'm not missing the game. I'm rather glad when kids who are in no way watching the game head over there though

If things get completely redesigned, stick it on top of the bathroom out there and line the foul line with seats.
