Time to get prepared for plan B (or maybe it's really plan A). Let's start scouting for some good coaches and an AD to make sure we don't fall off the cliff. This may have been the absolute worst decision in the history college sports...taking a top funded #1 team with the best talent roster in the NCAA and handing it over to someone who has no qualifications leading the top team. Perhaps he can develop over time, but he's not ready for that type of jump (leading the top programs as his first major gig) and having someone like that can destroy a program and everything Schloss did to turn us into a contender. If the AD was that wreckless, we need to make sure he doesn't have the opportunity to pick other coaches.

What picks do we have for the new coach / AD?

None. You guys don't realize that winning is irrelevant. The university making profit is what they care about. We'll be mediocre in every sport cuz that's the cost benefit analysis that makes us most profitable. You're an Aggie fan. Accept we're never gonna win anything, watch for the entertainment, be mad for a day and then it's over.
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

More wins = more donations, more apparel/tickets sales, higher viewership ratings, more sponsorships, etc. Winning means a lot more money if done right. It's a business decision.

A bit premature

It is better than being constantly miserable about something that in the long run does not effect your life. If you could not enjoy last season's baseball run there is something wrong with you.

Winning is expensive and not guaranteed. We circumvent that by being the largest university in terms of on campus student enrollment. We manufacture our own fans, indoctrinate them and they don't leave. As evidenced by the people who are on here saying this is their last season but always come back. We're filthy rich and haven't done anything in 84 years. Why are they gonna change the recipe now?

I did enjoy it. But it's a one off. The exception not the rule

Trev really strikes me as a CEO/CFO type AD, and I think that's what leadership wants right now in this unsure time of college athletics. Someone who will cut costs and build up a war chest for when the SHTF and revenue share becomes a reality and schools have to scramble to find the funds to pay for it while staying moderately competitive.

Will be interesting to see what renovation projects get cancelled or what coaches across the country surprisingly leave schools because they can no longer afford to pay these mega contracts that have become a norm in the coaching industry

It's all about PnL right now

I think hiring Trev was one of the more forward looking things we've done in a real long time for all the reasons you posted.

It's never premature. Our best chance of getting a top tier-1 coach was when we had an experienced contender ready to go. Now, it will be a little harder.

The '22 baseball season not good enough? The 2012 football season? Gillispie Era in boundyball? I would love the Aggies to win a Natty in any of the "Big Three" sports, particularly baseball, but the fact that A&M has not won it all in a sport "that folks actually care about" in forever is going to keep me from enjoying seasons as they unfold, And yes so far the '25 baseball season blows but fretting about it is not magically going to change the team's fate.

Well enlighten me on specific decisions Coach Mike has made that a top tier-1 coach would have not made?

The timing of POS leaving IMO made it quiet difficult. We had a top tier D1 coach and were able to hire him after several rather disappointing seasons.

Do you really think we are going to pay Trev $8+M to go away?

He's not even one year into a FULLY GUARANTEED $11M contract.

You are simply wasting your time speculating on a replacement, because it's not going to happen.

4 years from now, we'll be talking about a totally different set of ADs.

Again all exceptions. I watch pretty much all the sports. Once I accepted winning wasn't the goal, it's far more enjoyable because there's no expectations. It's just for fun. Look how upset OP is or 90% of the other posters here. They'd all benefit from accepting reality

What's the problem with our AD exactly?

the question is will Trev correct the problem after 1 season?

you know the athletic department doesn't want to spend this much NIL money on the baseball roster

We never make a true profit. Our costs exceed our revenue. But some costs are amortized over time with bonds and mitigated with donations…

That means it's Trev's job to limit deficit spending to the kind of spending that can be supported with that kind of amortization.

Fans demanding coaching changes and donating nothing make that job extremely hard…
