I don't think he liked being here. And I agree with you: he's a good coach but a terrible person. Tough to accept, but both things can be true.

College athletics have gotten crazy. I think it's important to remember that these are still student athletes and for most of them this will be just a small part of their lives.

Were you bad mouthing us hiring Schloss then? All the dirt was out there if you cared to look about how he was the same guy at TCU that he appears to be today. Certainly didn't affect us hiring and supporting him here

I did, actually, due to his being a ******** several times over the years. Especially the 2015 Supers. I was told I was a Childress apologist and that winning was worth it.

How many Walks did we give up tonight ?
13 free bases

10 walks
3 hit by pitch

Quite frankly that is bush league. Can it change? Yes. But apparently our offseason left a lot to be desired.

Not terribly impressed with our new pitching coach's work thus far.

We got spoiled by Weiner. Another dishonest scumbag who is also a good coach.

You can be a bad person and a great coach. Lots of coaches walk the line of being a jerk to players and getting the most out of them from a talent standpoint. Schloss seems to fit that description pretty perfectly.

The line between winning at all costs and winning with class is something Aggies have always struggled with. Frankly, most aggies seem content to win less but act like we have some moral superiority to others because we do things the "right way". You even seen derivatives of this mindset on threads like tonight when posters get shouted down for making fairly honest, but negative observations. Happens in football all the time. Part me believes that this is what keeps us from having a level of success in the big 3 sports that is more in line with the athletic dept resources.

To be fair it's also what separates us from having enormous scandals like Penn State (football) had. It's why we have things like the RWB out. I don't think we're morally superior and, like most of us, would love to see our athletic programs win championships. But I mostly just care about our players and want them to see them succeed in life.

Well we will see then because he stole lots of recruits(high school) from us so they don't seem to care. If the rumors were out there that he treated players bad then he wouldn't have been able to assemble the teams he had here at A&M. Just like fans, players can be convinced to come regardless as long as you win.

Lots? How many? We'll see how many end up on campus with him.

I was hoping we would bounce back with a home win over Texas State. Instead, we lost two straight home games to inferior opponents, and this time by 4 runs. I really hope we bounce back with a win over Arizona in the first of 3 games of the Astros Foundation College Classic. My friend and I will be going to the Arizona game on Friday night, and the Oklahoma State Game on Saturday night.

I don't know Weiner but he was a guy with one year of college experience put in a very difficult situation by his boss. I'm not sure he had any choice.

They'd have loved him at Nuremberg.

Earley came back, he didn't. Also he coached in the major leagues. I don't think he was going to be left out to dry if he decided to not join POS (his boss who was fine to put him in a tough situation) in Austin.

Yep. I wonder how many posters here would be happy with a scandal like at Penn State or Baylor if it meant winning more games.

You mentioned RWB out that people still talk about. I'd bet most people couldn't tell you who won the national title in 2001 without looking it up (or at least wouldn't be able to if it weren't one of the best teams ever assembled).

Some people are way too invested in a game played by 18-22 year olds and give up all morals in pursuit of it.

I think Earley has a lot to prove. This new pitching coach has an already developed starting rotation. The middle relief is bad. So far he has quite a bit to show us. That should have improved. Is Longley gonna get off the bus? You have the most talented offense in America. Why is it floundering against vastly inferior pitching? The Aggies backups are a great lineup. You still can't get more than this?

Not seeing it.

This is more than a few bad innings. We have 7 games against far inferior opponents. We have maybe 2 solid performances at the plate, but not a lot of plate discipline and tons of weak popups. We have major holes in the lineup at first and an outfield spot with how kash has played. Hopefully sorrell coming back helps, but the alarm bells should be going off for everyone solely based on how the AB's are going. We aren't drawing a ton of walks and consistently getting loud outs where's it's obvious that the runs will eventually show up. It's concerning - especially because of the level of opponent we have played so far.

Weekend starters seem solid, but apparently no one else can throw a strike. Too many free bases and zero feel from the staff on how to manage the game. Would expect some of that to come with experience but the staff was so poorly managed tonight it's tough to ignore. It would be one thing to see this vs sec opponents, but we look awful versus teams with far inferior talent. There's way too much talent on this team for them to look this bad against such poor competition.

Really there is no better way to put it.

Lol. I'd imagine we use the same technology Weiner does. That dude never even played baseball. All he's got is a "pound the zone" mantra which our coaches and players still say. He isn't tuned in on mechanics. It's all about recruiting. Idk on what planet you thought our pitching was great last year anyway unless compared to our season before that. Pitching was our big weakness last year and for most the SEC season we only had 3-5 pitchers doing good at once, but our pitchers got hot late. Unfortunately several of our best pitchers from then aren't with us anymore.
